Wednesday, August 24, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 5 Fourth Friday Art Stroll By helen Schmidling Correspondent With just two weeks until the Sisters Folk Festival, you have your tickets, right? No? Well, the Sisters Arts Association has a quick-draw prize for you! This month, thanks to an anonymous donor, the Fourth Friday Art Stroll is pleased to offer two all-event passes to the Sisters Folk Festival, September 9-11. Just come out to visit the galleries of Sisters on Friday, August 26, between 4 and 7 p.m., and sign up to win. One signup per gallery. Come and enjoy an eve- ning filled with art, wine and artistic company. Gallery maps are available in all of the galleries. In keeping with the Quick Draw theme of Folk Festival, Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop will be featuring Dennis McGregor’s “Hot Dogs,” the original painting that he created for this year’s festi- val poster, along with newly arrived posters available for sale. Later that evening, Dennis McGregor and The Spoilers will play the last of the Festive Friday summer concerts at Angeline’s Bakery. Clearwater Gallery is fea- turing David Mensing and Vicki Shuck. David works in oil with a palette knife to con- vey an architectural, colorful and spiritual balance in his paintings, both large and small scale. Vicki’s oil paintings capture the cares and joys of life, using textures and colors that make each vignette rec- ognizable to all. Both David and Vicki will be on hand to talk about their newest work. Twigs Gallery is proud to represent three Central Oregon textile artists: Sheila Finzer, Carol Webb, and Sarah Kaufman, each with a unique view of the landscape and his- tory of Central Oregon. Sheila paints the landscape on fab- ric, and then adds detail and texture. Carol interprets the landscape with an abstract approach using strong line- work and her own hand- dyed fabric. Sarah begins each piece using a traditional folded log-cabin quilt block, using batiks, commercially printed and hand-dyed fabrics, and embellishes it with found objects. At Alpenhimmel Creative Arts Emporium, enjoy the whimsical artwork of Charity Alva inspired by her life in Germany, assemblage art by Terri Smith, and collage work by Justine Gibbs. Consider contributing to the Kareng Fund, a nonprofit group helping support Oregon art- ists in need, presented by Alex Lanham of Portland. A Sennelier watercolor demon- stration will start at 4 p.m. Hood Avenue Art features pastel and oil artist Kathleen Keliher and jewelers Elyse and Steven Douglas. Kathleen takes inspiration from Central Oregon vistas for her paint- ings; the Douglases excel in crafting original Oregon sun- stone jewelry designs. “Sisters Cradle,” an origi- nal wall sculpture designed and produced by Kenneth Scott, is at The Imagination Gallery. Due to the actual metal preparation, finish- ing, and flame coloring, each piece is one-of-a-kind. The final touches are dependent on spontaneous, organic sequence and actual work- bench circumstance. Clint Pettigrew, raised in Washington, is an avid out- doorsman. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and creating beautiful woodwork. Inspired by the Early American style, Clint tries to create this look by dis- tressing new wood and mate- rials. Clint now lives in Bend and displays his woodwork at Gary Cooley’s Collection Gallery. At Studio Redfield, fea- tured artists Laura Campbell and Maren Burck are work- ing on a collaboration of hand-thrown dishware by Laura, with original art work by Maren. They are setting a splendid table for the art walk. The Sisters Art Works Entry Gallery is holding its annual artists’ reception benefit for Furry Friends Foundation. The “Fur & Feather Show” features artists Kimry Jelen, Ingrid Lustig, Kathy Deggendorfer, Mary Medrano and more. Other galleries open for Fourth Friday include Jill Neal Gallery, Raven Makes Gallery, Beacham’s Clock Co., Things Etc., Dyrk Godby Gallery, Grizzly Ridge Upcycle, Navigator News, Cha for the Finest, Old West Collectables, The Jewel, and the Gallery at Sisters Library. 4 th Friday Art Stroll Aug. 26, 4-7 pm Downtown Sisters Be sure to visit these participating galleries...
