Wednesday, June 1, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Outlaws’ Jensen is Coach of the Year By Rongi Yost Correspondent Outlaws soccer Coach Rob Jensen was selected as the recipient of the OACA (Oregon Athletics Coaches Association) Coach of the Year (COY) Award for boys soccer at the 4A level. Jensen was recognized at an awards banquet and presented with a plaque in honor of his achievement on Saturday, May 21, in the Club Level at Autzen Stadium. Jensen is a five-time league Coach of the Year (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) winner. He was selected as the OACA Coach of the Year in 2013, and was the recipient again this year. This past season (2015) he and his players finished with a 16-0-1 overall record. Jensen said, “It was an honor this year because I was a write-in. All of the league coaches of the year ...it is an honor for a majority of the state’s coaches to write me in... — Coach Rob Jensen photo by Jerry baldock are nominated and I wasn’t the Sky-Em Coach of the Year (if he would have been, it would have marked six straight years). So, it is an honor for a majority of the state’s coaches to write me in, even though I wasn’t on the ballot.” Jensen obviously is doing something right, and shared in brief with The Nugget his coaching philosophy: “My philosophy is that athletics is a great opportu- nity to pursue excellence, while teaching student ath- letes how to be successful, quality humans, on and off the field of play.” LOVE & FRIENDSHIP (PG) X-MEN (PG-13) FRI 7:00 • SAT 3:30, 7:00 SUN 3:00, 6:00 MON-THURS 6:00 ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS (PG) FRI 4:45, 7:15 SAT 2:15, 4:45, 7:15 SUN 1:45, 4:00, 6:30 MON-THURS 4:00, 6:30 THE NICE GUYS (R) FRI 7:15 SAT 4:45, 7:15 SUN 3:45, 6:15 MON-THURS 6:15 MONEY MONSTER (R) FRI 5:00 • SAT 2:30 SUN 1:45 MON-THURS 4:00 Movie times and titles are bsite subject to change. Candidate Kozowski’s general observation about the Sheriff”s Office having continuing challenges with “supervision and leadership” would be more helpful if he would be more specific. That being said, a review of the candidate’s online resume reveals that despite his claimed 15 years in law-enforcement he has not earned a college degree (neither two-year, four-year, or master’s). Parallel to this lack of higher education, a “must” for anyone seeking to essentially become the CEO of an organization like the Sheriff”s Office, is his apparent lack of DPSST Management training (supervisory/ mid-level/executive). Review of DPSST’s web page offering the criteria for such certification should be must reading for the voter. The training / educa- tion is extensive in nature and the pursuit of such training demonstrates an officer’s profes- sional desire to become a qualified prospect for leadership roles with a law-enforcement agency. Clearly in his career as a LEO the candi- date has chosen to pursue other interests (e.g. his private-sector police supply business) and avoid taking on additional responsibilities as a supervisor / leader to include having never served as a sergeant for any of the agencies he’s worked for to date. It is clear he is no expert on supervision nor on leadership — he’s not done the “flight time.” Would you or I be comfortable getting on an airliner knowing the pilot’s sole profes- sional experience was flying a hang glider? I imagine not. Greg Walker Coach Rob Jensen.
