20 Wednesday, May 11, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon OPEN: Participants can sign up now for June event Continued from page 3 Open and Hall of Fame Banquet. “The Booster Club has focused on FUNraising and working with the school dis- trict to fill the seats and events to support the students and athletes,” said Brett Hudson, president of the Outlaw Booster Club, which is now in its second year organizing the golf tournament. “The Open and Hall of Fame help raise funds to create special opportunities beyond what the school district can sup- port to help make these years as special as possible for the students. “We have helped sponsor rooter buses to state tourna- ments, improve playing fields and equipment, and given donations to the elementary and middle school for stu- dent enrichment,” Hudson said. “This year the Booster Club will also be grant- ing two scholarships that we hope to build on in the future.” The Outlaw Open, which sold out in 2015, would not be as much of a success if it wasn’t fun for all. This year, the event will get even more enjoyable for the attendees. As always, the tourna- ment includes a dinner and live auction. But new this year will be a dance and a performance by Central Oregon’s own High Street Band. Cost to play in the tournament is $130 per golfer, and that includes din- ner, auction and entertain- ment. Those not interested in playing are invited to attend the dinner and post-dinner entertainment ($30 per per- son) or just the High Street Band performance and dance ($10). Sponsorships are also available. Aspen Lakes has been involved from the beginning, and has donated the use of the course for all 19 tournaments. “One of the things we wanted when we built the golf course was to be able to give back to the Sisters com- munity,” said Pam Mitchell, who co-owns Aspen Lakes. “This is one of those ways we do it. The Outlaw Open helps support the Sisters foot- ball program and the rest of the schools’ extracurricular activities.” The Second Annual Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony, which will be held on Saturday, September 3, is younger but no less important. The week- end of festivities begin when the Hall of Fame inductees are announced during Friday night’s Sisters football game. The banquet, which will be hosted at Sisters High School, begins Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner, auction and Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A ticket to the Hall of Fame Banquet is $50 per person. Discounts are avail- able for those who purchase a ticket for The Outlaw Open and the Hall of Fame Banquet. “Our football program is extremely appreciative of all the support they receive, and this event also gives us a chance to say thank you as well,” said Gary Thorson, head football coach at Sisters High School. “Last year was a huge success and we had an unbeliev- able and unselfish group of people putting it together, and we look forward to this again.” For more informa- tion about sponsorship opportunities or registra- tion for either event, visit w w w. b i r d e a s e p r o . c o m / OBCOutlawOpenandHOF or email crambrose17@gmail. com. Sisters artist featured at SAW exhibit “Fish and Fowl: Native Woods,” a show of recent work by Sisters artist and long-time educator Steve Mathews, will open at Sisters Art Works on Monday, May 16. The exhibit will include illustrated tables, benches, mirrors, wall pieces and acrylic paintings. “Most of the work included will have a some- what whimsical and off-beat direction, hopefully allowing viewers to look closely, study details and perhaps smile a bit,” Mathews said. The colors are pre- dominantly warm and the themes are upbeat, with just a touch of surrealism added. Viewers are invited to visit the showing on weekdays at Sisters Art Works and to stop in for a glass of wine during the Fourth Friday Art Stroll on Friday, May 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sisters Art Works is located at 204 W.
