Spring is the season for new life in Sisters Country.
9-1-1: District
takes the place of

running and allow the district
to bank funds for eventual
system replacement as the
technology evolves and
current infrastructure comes
to the end of its service
life.
“We’re consolidating two
taxes into one,” Reinke said.
“We do not plan to levy that
full amount for at least the
next two fiscal years.”
Reinke noted that many
people are unaware of
how 9-1-1 operates and
the strains that can be put
on the system. It’s not just
about fielding an emergency
call and dispatching the
appropriate response. He
said that 50 percent of the
work is communicating with
responders and managing
multiple calls on the same
incident.
When there is a house fire,
there will be multiple calls,
and “until they (the public)
see responders on the scene,
they keep calling.”
9-1-1 operators also must
communicate with responders
about potential hazards on the
scene of an incident.
“A big part of our role is
keeping responders safe with
all the information,” Reinke
said.
The 9-1-1 system also
captures data in order to
track response times and the
locations of incidents.
Reinke said that, if voters
approve it, the permanent
district will serve the needs
of the area for many years to
come.
“We are anticipating that
what we are asking for will
serve us into the 2030s and
beyond,” he said.
Happy Mother’s Day!
