Wednesday, March 30, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon C O M M U N I T 3 Y Sisters Community Garden plots available As Old Man Winter begins to head out of town, the Sisters Community Garden is springing back in action. Located at 15860 Barclay Dr., next to Sisters Eagle Airport, the Sisters Community Garden provides area residents of all income levels the opportunity to grow their own fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers while gaining new gardening skills with this enthusiastic group of local gardeners. Currently, there are indi- vidual plots still available for the 2016 season, but they won’t last long. The fees for 2016 are $50 for a large bed and $30 for a small bed. Anyone interested in a bed for the 2016 garden season must fill out an application, release form, and pay the gar- den fee. Forms can be found online at www.sisterscommunity garden.org or can be found in the little shed at the gar- den itself. For more infor- mation about plot availabil- ity, contact Trine Benson at trinemarvin@hotmail.com. FOSL Spring Fling Book Sale on tap By Jim Anderson Correspondent The “Spring Fling” book sale at FOSL’s Book Corner will take place on Saturday, April 2, in the Sisters Library from 1 to 3 p.m. To make sure everyone attending the sale will have the opportu- nity to find the book(s) they want, the sale will be held in the Book Corner on the north end of the library and at the same time in the community room on the south end. This will be a special event, according to Book Corner manager Lynne Wood. The library has donated Iconic location hosts Sisters Saloon By Jim cornelius several boxes of books to FOSL after their quarterly “house cleaning,” which bur- ied the Book Corner under piles of wonderful titles look- ing for new owners. To sweeten the day, Wood will be offering a number of quilting books she normally sets aside for Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Day. To make the Spring Fling even more fun for Sisters Country residents, Wood has also put in place a buy-three-get-one-free sale. Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, April 1, putting on a fine spread for the Sisters community. Extensive restaurant expe- rience and design expertise have come together to create a contemporary menu that will be served up in a setting that even in the details hear- kens back to the turn of the 20th century. “We have modernized the menu a little bit,” Aaron explained. “It’s still cowboy grub, but we’re using fresh ingredients and doing more from scratch.” First-class burgers are a priority, and Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill will serve them up with Sisters-raised grass-fed beef. The steaks, too, will be Oregon-raised beef, and the produce is fresh and locally sourced wherever possible. There will be vege- tarian and gluten-free options as well. “We’ve got a couple of really good fish dishes,” Aaron said. “The scratch cooking is so full of flavor. I’m so excited about it.” Ashley Okura turned her interior design background to making the 1912 building resonate with its heritage in every way. All the woodwork has been restored and refreshed. “On all the walls we did a hand-troweled plaster, which is what would have been done in the early 1900s,” she said. “I chose a color palette that actually is from the early 1900s.” Even the bathrooms have an authentic touch: the men’s room features a sink that is a replica of one from 1910.
