Sisters Little League volunteer honored Jamie Vohs, secretary of Sisters Little League, was named Volunteer of The Year for District 5 Little League last week. Oregon District 5 Little League consists of The Dalles, Hood River, John Day, Prineville, Warm Springs, Madras, Redmond, Bend, La Pine and Sisters. “For our secretary to win this award is a big deal, and it is a very well-deserved award,” said Little League board chair Kyle Fischer. “Without a doubt she has been at the center of the growth the past few years of Sisters Little League.” District 5 Administrator Elizabeth Hisatake presented the award at the regular Little League meeting on March 7. “I’m very humbled by it,” said Vohs. “It’s very rewarding to know that effort is noticed. I’m very surprised, because I’m just doing what I would normally do.” Sisters Little League will field approximately 150 kids this year. Team announce- ment night is April 5 at the Sisters Middle School gym, and opening-day ceremonies are set for April 16 at the Sisters Community Church ball fields. Vohs emphasized that it takes a lot of work from a lot of people to make Little League thrive in Sisters. “We have a really good group of board members who are committed to improv- ing the program,” she said. “I think we’re really lucky. There’s a lot of effort put into organizing this for the kids each year — and a great team that really enjoys doing it.” • Jeff Campbell, board president of the Sisters Park & Recreation District, gave a short presentation to the Sisters City Council on how he incorporated the tenets of the Speak Your Peace Project into the functioning of the SPRD board. He wanted to provide for impact and longevity so that years from now, with new board members, SPRD board meetings will still be con- ducted utilizing the civility tenets. They have been incor- porated into the board code of conduct, operations and pro- cedures, and new board mem- ber orientation. Campbell, who is also part of the steering committee for Citizens4Community, said a PowerPoint presentation has been put together to help walk groups through adoption of Sisters’ Speak Your Peace, officially known as the Sisters Country Civility Project. There are also sample reso- lutions on the C4C website, www.citizensforcommunity. com. • Deschutes County Sheriff Shane Nelson made a brief appearance at the last City Council meeting, to assure Council that Sisters’ public safety is still excellent and secure and that his offi- cers are serving the City of Sisters well. This came on the heels of the resignation of two sheriff’s captains. • The tennis/basketball March 18th March 25th April 1st April 8th April 15th courts on the elementary school grounds are already being used for basketball now that new hoops have been installed. The former entry on Locust Street has been removed and the old exit will be redesigned for both entering and exiting. • $20,000 in reserva- tions were booked for the coming season at Creekside Campground on the first day of online reservations. The entire campground for all of Sisters Folk Festival weekend was booked in one hour with Quilt Show reservations close behind. • City Council approved an ordinance creating a City Housing Policy Board, which will function in an advisory capacity on matters of afford- able housing, workforce hous- ing, housing trends, and other housing related issues. Council hopes to have the board appointed and functioning by July 1. • Council approved a staff request to put out a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an update to the Transportation System Plan (TSP).
