The new sys- tem should greatly reduce the workload for financial administrative assistant Julie Pieper, who said, “I am thrilled. The new sys- tem is easier for everyone involved.” The new system is acces- sible through the City web- site (www.ci.sisters.or.us). The site will contain a map of the campground with photos of each campsite and a map with driving directions will be emailed with each reser- vation confirmation. A direct link to the reservation site will be contained in all City advertising, such as that done by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. • Sisters City Council is exploring the possibility of raising the transient room tax (TRT) charged for all over- night lodging in Sisters from eight percent to nine-and- nine-tenths percent. Seventy percent of the TRT goes to the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce in support of their efforts to market Sisters to potential tourists. The other 30 percent goes to the City of Sisters. At their February 11 meeting, Council will hold a public hearing to discuss the possible TRT increase and invites public comment at that meeting. Council is con- sidering utilizing the 30 per- cent raised through the TRT as an income stream to estab- lish a housing trust fund that could help attract develop- ers of affordable/workforce housing to build in Sisters. • The City has received applications for liquor licenses from Sisters Ranch Grill and Saloon (formerly Bronco Billy’s), Sisters Meats and Smokehouse, Hop in the Spa, and Rio Restaurant (new owners). Wrestlers struggle against Elmira By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws suffered a 57-27 loss at the dual wres- tling match held at Elmira on Thursday, February 4. Elmira’s tough matmen were just more than the Outlaws could handle. Three Outlaws, Parker Ford, Zach Reid, and Dyut Fetrow, were the only Outlaws able to record wins. Ford (106 pounds) was able to pin Gray Canada in 1:44, Reid won by a fall in 2:59 over Scott Sanders- Anderson, and Fetrow (138 pounds) pinned Zach Russell in 2:49. Coach John Down commented, “It has been a tough season, with ups and downs, especially for the more experienced wrestlers. Many expectations have not been reached or are looking out of reach.” Sisters was scheduled to have their final match at home against Junction City on Tuesday, February 9. The Outlaws will participate in the Regional Tournament held at Elmira on Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20. “We seem to do better at tournaments than duals, so I hope the team shows commit- ment, desire, and great work ethic this next week for the Regional Tournament,” said Downs. Lady Outlaws demolished by Bulldogs By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Lady Outlaws trav- eled to Sutherlin on Friday, February 5, and were crushed 67-8 by the top-ranked Bulldogs. Sisters struggled from the get-go and was never able to keep up with the Bulldogs’ transition offense. The Outlaws gave up many easy lay-ins and allowed Taylor Stricklin to score 36 points, 26 of which came in the first half. Sisters wasn’t able to adjust in the post area, and Stricklin scored numerous easy buckets. Offensively, the Outlaws passed the ball poorly, which resulted in turnovers and easy buckets for the Bulldogs. Coach Casey Pallister said, “We weren’t patient and confident in our offense, and our technique was not up to par. That said, Sutherlin is an excellent team, and we knew they were going to be a big challenge. We didn’t give our best effort this game, but we are looking forward to com- peting hard in our next two weeks of league.” Sisters dropped to a 2-4 record in league play. The Outlaws were scheduled to play at Cottage Grove on Tuesday, February 9. Sisters will face the Huskies at home in Sisters on Friday, February 12.
