Wednesday, February 3, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 9 Girls basketball has tough week By Rongi yost Correspondent The girls basketball team lost both their games this past week and dropped to a 2-3 record in league play. Sisters fell 32-25 to the Tigers at Junction City (JC) on Tuesday, January 26, and at home three days later were defeated 40-23 by the Elmira Falcons. In Tuesday’s road game against the Tigers, the Outlaws struggled on the offensive end, largely due to mental mistakes. On the flip side, Sisters did maintain fairly strong defense throughout the contest. “For most of the game we allowed one contested shot and blocked out well, and they were never really able to get anything going inside,” said Coach Casey Pallister. Sisters trailed by six at the close of the first quarter, but narrowed the gap in the second and entered the half down by two, 13-11. The Outlaws came out strong in the third and battled back to take a 21-19 lead. The Tigers TREATING SPORTS INJURIES Children & Adults hit some outside shots in the fourth and made a run that gave them the advantage. The Outlaws were unable to pick things up on the offensive end, and lost by seven. Jules Meeter had a great game. Meeter showed some great defensive hustle, blocked out well, and attacked the bas- ket. Jules finished the game with nine points, and was five-for-nine from the free- throw line. Olivia Stewart also had a good game and finished with eight points on the night. “Jules played great,” said Pallister. “This was really a break-out game for her.” Pallister told The Nugget he felt that his team took another step forward, despite the loss. “We know our defense can keep us in games, but we need to be able to have five play- ers composed and attacking on the offensive end to get the job done,” said Pallister. “We just had too many fundamen- tal mistakes tonight.” Three days later, the Outlaws dropped another game, this time against a tough Elmira squad. The Falcons brought a balanced attack, with seven players contributing points in the game. Sisters struggled to remain disciplined in their offense, and had a hard time adjusting to the Falcons’ vari- ous defensive sets.
