Wednesday, February 3, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 21 Megan Calarco Sisters High School January 2015 Student of the Month Megan Calarco is making memories. A four-year track and cross-country athlete, she’s also the school-to-com- munity liaison for Associated Student Government and serves as an intern with the Sisters Middle School’s ECOS environmental education program. While she’s strong in the classroom, she has been determined to make the most of all facets of school and enjoy as many experiences as possible. “I’ve been involved and made memories in my high school career,” she says. Megan currently plans to attend Or- egon State University. She’s interested in the forestry program. Calarco has high praise for her school and community. “Sisters High School has been a re- ally great place for opportunities,” she says. “It’s really unique growing up here, and I’m not really wanting to go to a big city for college.” “Megan works hard to make SHS a better place each and every day. She is a dedicated student, a caring classmate, and an admirable leader. This year, I have had the privilege of working with her on a wide variety of ASG projects — from organizing dances to planning as- semblies. Each time I work with Megan, I’m amazed with her commitment to ser- vice and her excellent work ethic. She’s everything an Outlaw should be, and I don’t know what we’d do without her!” — Matt Bradley, Teacher Megan shines as a leader and per- son of high-quality character. While her academic ability is also very strong, her clear ethic and exceptional character set her apart. She has provided an ex- ample for her peers and contributed to our community through her kindness and willingness to stand up for what is right. We are so fortunate to have Megan be a part of our school.” — Rima Givot, Teacher “Megan is the hardest working cat- lover I’ve ever known!” — Dan O’Neill, Teacher “Megan is one of the sweetest and caring students in the school. She connects through sports and a leader- ship role in the school. She’s one that certainly leads by example.” — Joe Hosang, Principal “Megan is great think- er, and I love the way she throws herself into her work for herself and for this school. Megan is always a ray of sunshine and takes challenges with grace and poise. Congratulations, Megan!” — Bethany Gunnarson, Teacher “I was fortunate to have Megan in I.E.E. last year and this year, in AP English Literature. I have long been im- pressed by her positive attitude and her determination. She always has an ‘I can,’ ‘I will,’ and ‘I am’ attitude. Not only have I seen it contribute to her success, but I have also seen it inspire others. She re- ally is a winner! Thank you for being that kind of role model, Megan!” — Samra Spear, Teacher These businesses have joined The Nugget in supporting our youth and their accomplishments by co-sponsoring the Student of the Month program.
