Wednesday, January 20, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 29 High school student creates yearbook cover By ceili cornelius Correspondent Hannah Tenneson, a senior at Sisters High School (SHS), designed and drew the 2015- 2016 yearbook cover. An avid artist, Tenneson created a cover that is unique and perfectly describes Sisters and SHS. The cover art fea- tures a herd of horses running in front of the Three Sisters. The yearbook staff asked her to draw the cover because they wanted the cover art to be designed and drawn out by a student, so that the yearbook will be more unique and spe- cial to the students. “The technique (was to make) it more geometric and less realistic, but still relate it to Sisters and have it actu- ally be an image unique to Sisters High School,” said Tenneson. “I thought it would transfer on the front of a book really well, making it clearly black-and-white.” Tenneson plans to attend college and pursue a career in art. Jerry Baldock of Outlaw Photography presented Tenneson with a $100 schol- arship for her cover art. The yearbook staff looked at all aspects of Tenneson’s cover and saw how well it would fit on the book and the image they wanted the year- book to portray, and Hannah’s cover was exactly what the staff was looking for. “We loved her simplicity, yet detailed work. We felt it went perfectly with our theme and our vision for the book,” said yearbook staff-member Maggie Bidasolo. The yearbook will have a Sisters-oriented theme, with We have what you’re looking for! Submission day is Thursday, March 31, 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sisters Library. This year’s literary selec- tion is “Euphoria,” by Lily King. Set in mid-1930s New Guinea, “Euphoria” is inspired by events in the life of revolutionary anthropolo- gist Margaret Mead. She was a singular woman on the cut- ting edge of a relatively new area of study. The novel is a captivating story of three young, gifted anthropologists caught in a love triangle in which they interact on a variety of lev- els — emotional, intellectual, romantic and sexual — and that threatens their bonds, their careers, and ultimately their lives. Copies of the book are available at the Sisters Library. For a description of the book visit www.deschutes library.org. For additional information on the novel and all the activities planned dur- ing April, stop by the Sisters Library and pick up the events guide. The FOSL art committee encourages artists to submit work that represents their own interpretation of themes in the novel such as: nature, indigenous art, family, pas- sion and grief. These are only suggestions and artists may choose any themes they glean from reading the book. The artwork must be able to be wall-hung (with wire hangers already attached) or displayed on tabletops, as no display cases will be Ellen Wood Broker, GRI, ABR available. All artwork must be identified either on the back or the front with the name of the exhibitor and the title of the artwork. The artists may determine whether or not their work is for sale. The pick-up day for art will be Saturday, April 30, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the library.
