Wednesday, January 20, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Girls basketball stymied by the Bulldogs The Lady Outlaws were completely shut down in their league opener at home against Sutherlin on Friday, January 15. The two-time state cham- pions proved they were worthy of the title. The Bulldogs have won 70 of their last 71 games, have the No. 1 defense in the state this year, and hold teams to an average of 20 points per game. The Bulldogs jumped out quick against the Outlaws and took a 19-3 lead to close out the first quarter. They held the Outlaws to just six points for the remainder of the game, two points in each quarter. Coach Casey Pallister had few words to say but did note Lexie Stewart and Meaghan Greaney. “Lexie’s on-ball defense was very impressive, and I was also excited to see Meaghan play excellent defense for varsity, and get a bunch of rebounds in both the JV and varsity games. Olivia Stewart scored five points for Sisters, including one three-pointer. The JV squad had much better luck on the court and defeated Sutherlin in triple overtime, with a game- winning shot from Greaney. After the win, several JV players played one quarter in the varsity game against the very tough defending state champions. Sisters was to play at home against Cottage Grove on Tuesday, January 19.
