Wednesday, January 13, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 21 Tara Greaney Sisters High School December 2015 Student of the Month Tara Greany is Associated Student Government (ASG) President; vale- dictorian of her class; and IEE intern; and a three-sport athlete (swimming, track and cross-country). What motivates her to be so active? “I really like the school,” she said. “And I have more fun when I’m in- volved. I like meeting new people.” She came to Sisters schools from a private school in third grade. She says she has a wider range of expe- riences and more opportunities be- cause of her time in Sisters schools. “I really like school,” she said. “I like all of my subjects.” Future plans are uncertain. She may volunteer in the Peace Corps. She defi nitely wants to travel. Tara expressed her appreciation for those who chose her for Student of the Month. “I’m very honored to get this,” she said. “Responsible, dedicated and positive are the words I use to describe Tara Gre- aney. Outside of Tara’s duties as our Stu- dent Government Present, Tara is a quiet leader that leads by example. She not only does extremely well in sports and her studies, but she sincerely wants to make a positive difference in our school. I believe she’s an important part of why our school’s spirit improved this year. I am grateful for her efforts, and she de- serves this recognition.” — Joe Hosang, Principal “I have worked with Tara Greaney over the past 4 years watching her grow both in the classroom and on the compe- tition fi eld. She pours her heart and soul into everything she does, and she does it with a smile on her face. Tara works hard to bring out the best in everyone around her, and she cares deeply about others. I would feel honored to have her on any team that I coach.” — Tim Roth, Director of Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities “Tara is a wonderful kid. Her love of learning is inspiring to me and her classmates. I have been so fortunate to be one of her teach- ers. She has so many great qualities, but I appreciate her sense of humor most of all.” — Dan O’Neill, Teacher “Working with Tara Gre- aney is a pure joy. She is smart, thoughtful, and generous. I cannot wait to see what she does in the future.” — Tony Cosby, Teacher “It’s such a pleasure to teach Tara.” — Janis Quiros, Teacher “Tara stands out as a lead- er who has great passion for people. She genuinely strives to see the positive in every person and situation—a rare quality in people her age. I am equally impressed with her time-management skills. She is incredibly organized and always strives to produce quality work and to impress. I admire that Tara takes her learning seriously, trying to fi nd meaning and rel- evancy in all she encounters. She is truly an outstanding individual with much to offer.” — Samra Spear, Teacher These businesses have joined The Nugget in supporting our youth and their accomplishments by co-sponsoring the Student of the Month program.
