It’s a great way for families to enjoy some time together and for kids to make their wish list known to the jolly old elf. It’s also a great way to cre- ate a significant and mean- ingful gift for other kids in the community — kids whose families may be struggling to make ends meet. On December 28 FivePine donated the entire proceeds of the event — $2,195.85 — to Family Access Network. City seeks planning commission volunteer The City of Sisters is accepting applications for one “in-city” or “out-of-city” vol- unteer to serve on the City of Sisters Planning Commission. The term expires in June 2018. The Planning Commission’s purpose is to review major land-use appli- cations; advise Sisters City Council on planning policies as well as needed changes to the comprehensive plan and development code. The City of Sisters encour- ages interested parties to apply for the opening by completing an application by 5 p.m. on January 15, 2016. The Planning Commission regularly meets in Sisters City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. There may be additional meetings scheduled and sub-committee assignments. Oregon State Police reports that on December 25, at about 10 a.m., troop- ers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a crash involving two vehicles on Highway 20 near mile- post 77, just east of Santiam Junction. Preliminary information indicates a 2003 Chevy Tahoe driven by Maria Sandoval, age 42, of Salem, was trav- eling eastbound when she lost control on the icy road- way. The Chevy crossed the centerline and struck a west- bound 2005 Dodge pickup driven by Richard L. Barge, age 44, of Terrebonne, nearly head-on. In all, six people were trans- ported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Bend for vari- ous injuries. Highway 20 was closed for several hours while the investigation was conducted.
