Wednesday,December30,2015The Nugget Newspaper,Sisters,Oregon21 Obituary Michael Lynn Emmons June 13, 1941 — November 27, 2015 Michael Lynn Emmons passed away from a heart conditionthatunfortunately shadowed him in recent years. He was on a sunny afternoon walk around Lake Cascade in Orinda, California, with lifelong love and best friend, Gail Emmons. Forthosewhonevermet Mike,hecanbesummedup intwowords:Humilityand generosity.Aprinceinplain clothes,hisviewoftheworld filledmanyofuswiththejoy hefelteverywakingminute. Withaninsatiablethirstfor knowledge,fewcouldmatch his command for recalling historical events as if read- ingfromabook.Fewerstill couldmatchawillingnessto listen...nomatterhowtrivial theagenda.Inhiseyes,you weretheonlypersoninthe room. Mike’sdrivetogiveback andcontributebenefitedsev- eralboards.Hemadealast- ingimpactthroughkeypolicy decisionsandstrategicdirec- tionforBlackButteRanch, MentorCorporation,andthe Deschutes Land Trust. He was a strong supporter of WagnerRanchNatureArea, Friends of Orinda Library, EFOOrindaSchools,Orinda Baseball, Lamorinda Water Polo, The Orinda Garden ClubandThePresidioSchool inSanFrancisco. T h o u g h h e w o u l d never let on, Mike was an All-American for Albany High Football, and 1960 NCAA Champion at The University of Washington; graduatingwithB.A.andlaw degrees. On June 14,1963, Mike marriedtheloveofhislifefor over52years,GailWilliams ofCorvallis. After earning a masters in tax law from NYU, he joinedArthurAndersen out ofPortlandin1967.Afterhis makingpartnerin1975,the family lived overseas twice during his 34-year career. Hong Kong became home 1974-1978,whereMikewas president of the American Chamber of Commerce. He joinedtheTokyooffice1990- 1993.Livingoverseashada lastingimpactondaughters Lisa and April, fostering a sharedpassionforadventure travel. Through retirement in July 2001, Mike worked in the San Francisco Bay Area.Heformedanin-house worldwide tax organization for Andersen Consulting. His team helped construct a strategic plan to reorga- nize what emerged as the world’s leading consulting firm:Accenture. Mike was amongkeyexecutivestoring thebellonWallStreetJuly 2001 whenAccenture, LLP listedontheNewYorkStock Exchange. Retirement followed, enjoying extensive travel with Gail and family. Mike and Gail visited over 75 countries and all seven continents. Days in Orinda or their secondhomeinSisterswere filledwithfamilytime,fly- fishing,photography,flying hisCirrusplane,hikingand golf.Mikefiredahole-in-one atBlackButteRanchAugust 1,2013! Asupportiveandendlessly proud husband, Mike cap- tured memorable moments p h o t o g r a p h i n g G a i l ’s Ikebana floral exhibitions anddemonstrations.Known asBaBatohisgrandchildren, henevermissedanopportu- nitytoattendanddocument theirmanybirthdays,perfor- mances, musicals, concerts, andsportingevents. Mike was born June 13, 1941, in Salem to C.S. and MildredEmmons. Heissurvivedbybrother Terence (and Victoria) Emmons and sister Karen Emmons. Brothers David and Pat, Jr.aredeceased. Mike is also survived by his loving wife, Gail WilliamsEmmons;daughters LisaEmmonsHallahanand AprilEmmonsAsai;sons-in- lawJackHallahanandHiroki Asai;andsixgrandchildren: Patrick Hallahan, Helena Hallahan,GriffithHallahan, Niko Asai, Kai Asai, and MasaAsai.
