Clinton Weaver, left, and firefighter spencer Cashwell check the specs on the finished cab and chassis of a new Cloverdale fire engine. Cloverdale fire moves forward on upgrades Progress continues with the voter-approved upgrades at the Cloverdale Fire District. The District reports that contractor Keeton King Construction has promised to have the building at Station 601 on George Cyrus Road completed to a point later this week where the trucks can be parked indoors. The cabs and chassis of the new pumpers have been completed and moved to Rosenbauers’ plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Last week firefighter Spencer Cashwell and Lieutenant Clinton Weaver traveled to Sioux Falls and inspected the cabs and chassis for confor- mation to the written specifi- cation. They spent about six hours inspecting each cab and chassis. The trucks are sched- uled for completion near the end of January 2016. News clips of happenings around town • City staff was recently complimented on being well prepared for the City audit conducted by Rob Tremper of Dickey and Tremper. He noted the audit was “one of the best he’d had with the City.” The financial statements were “fairly done” and Tremper was able to issue “a clean audit opinion.” Most funds and accounts ended the fiscal year in positive positions. • After more than a year of meetings, data analy- sis, five presentations to the City Council, and 11 public workshops conducted by the Parks Advisory Board (PAB), Council voted to approve the Creekside Park and Creekside Campground Master Plan as proposed by the PAB. Coun- cil noted their appreciation for all the hard work done by the PAB and Public Works Director Paul Bertagna. All parties involved were able to have their concerns heard and reach a workable consensus. The master plan will be sent on to the Oregon State Parks Department for their approval and will then be attached as an appendix to the comprehen- sive City Parks Master Plan. • The City was able to save $200,000 in debt service fees in one year due to new financ- ing arrangements with Bank of the Cascades thanks to efforts by City Manager Andrew Gorayeb and Financial Direc- tor Lynne Fujita-Conrads. • The improvements along East Barclay Drive, adjacent to the Sisters Eagle Air Air- port, are essentially completed with the creation of a pedes- trian pathway and installation of landscape plantings. These improvements were all part of the sewer/water extension project to the airport following its annexation into the City. • Community radio station KZSO 106.5 FM will hope- fully be resurrected thanks to the efforts of station man- ager Michael Richards with assistance from Senator Jeff Merkley’s office. Support came from The Roundhouse Foundation, Sisters Folk Fes- tival, Sisters School District and local sponsorships. Many residents consider the station a valuable community asset and started a petition calling for a return of the station. The FCC had prematurely pulled their license and awarded KZSO’s frequency to a commercial station. • The time has come for the City to undertake revising and updating its current trans- portation system plan (TSP). Most of the city is function- ing well as far as traffic flow, access, and pedestrian and bike safety. A roundabout at the intersection of McKinney Butte and Highway 20, which was identified as a need in the 2010 TSP, will soon be underway. • Badly needed is major revision on the east end of town, particularly the High- way 20/Locust Street inter- section. The City will also be working closely with the Ore- gon Department of Transpor- tation to address the possible removal of the truck scales from their current location adjacent to Creekside Camp- ground to allow for access to the campground directly from the highway. A technical advi- sory committee consisting of people with expertise as well as regular citizens will be appointed to consider neces- sary revisions.
