Author to read from
novel at book store
Oregon author Brian
Doyle will read from and
sign his new novel, “Martin
Marten,” at Paulina Springs
Books in Sisters on Saturday,
August 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Doyle, author of many
previous books including
the much-acclaimed “Mink
River,” is a marvelous sto-
ryteller whose stageworthy
public speaking skills will
have you laughing, applaud-
ing, and maybe crying.
His new book, set on
Oregon’s Mt. Hood, is two
stories in one. The first is that
of a 14-year-old boy named
Dave, who is growing up in
the hamlet of Zig Zag; the
second is of a marten named
Martin, who, like Dave, is
coming of age. Their separate
lives will ultimately mix and
mingle, for both are animals
existing in the same habitat.

Tumbleweed Peepshow
will take the stage at
Angeline’s Bakery this
Friday, July 31, offering their
only public show of this sum-
mer. The band features long-
time Sisters residents Brent
Alan, Raman Ellis, and Benji
Nagel, as well as a recent
transplant, Patrick Hardy.
The quartet’s original
songs reflect the wide-open
space and dramatic effect
of their rural and mountain-
ous home here in Sisters.
Also offering up classics
by the likes of Tom Waits,
Hank Williams, and Jackson
Browne, they pull at the
heartstrings with their raw,
soulful, roots-infused sound
