Wednesday, July 8, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters salutes… • Don Pollard wrote: The inaugural Hall of Fame Induction and the 19th annual Outlaw Open events were recently held at FivePine and Aspen Lakes Golf Course on June 25-26 respectively. I wanted to publicly thank many individuals, groups, and sponsors for their out- standing efforts in mak- ing these events a success. There were so many vol- unteers that made these events a reality, including but not limited to those individuals on the Hall of Fame Committee; Kris Kristovich, Chris Ambrose, Rand Runco, Jerry Baldock, Miki McFadden and Darren Layne. These individuals put forth countless hours researching and contacting potential candidates, and in some cases just find- ing a nominee was a real challenge. Then there is the event committee with great efforts from Tammy Ambrose, Sue Boettner, Robin Carlson, Gary Thorson, Brett and Cara Hudson, Jerry Baldock, Chris Ambrose, Connie Dingeman, Pam Mitchell and Sue Wessell. Their tire- less efforts in coordinating both events made all the difference. A special thank-you to Tim Roth and the sup- port and confidence from the Sisters School District and programs. Numerous student volunteers, includ- ing escorts, presenters, a makeshift band at the Open headed by Julie Cash, a national anthem performer, and a tent crew all played roles in the events. Sisters dchool teams and programs all played a part in the events. Thanks to Bethany Gunnarson and the entire art department for the great job making the hole signs, table signs, and banners. Thank you also to people like Jeri Fouts, Cort Horner, and Dennis Dempsey who went out of their way to engage and offer assistance. Last but not least, thank you to the sponsors, who made this event possible. There are so many of them I won’t mention them all by name, but whether it be an in-kind donation, something for the silent auctions, or cash donations, a very big sincere thank-you from all of us. This was truly a com- munity effort and a commu- nity event, and thank you to all that played a part, no matter how big or small the role. • Theresa Slavkovsky wrote: Habitat for Humanity family partners Margaret Doke, and Rick and Theresa Slavkovsky salute Rod Robinson and his crew of Robinson and Owen Heavy Construction for volun- teering and donating rock removal from the back- yard for Abel and Fermina Ortega. The Ortegas are the newest Habitat for Humanity homeowners. Thank you, Rod! This is truly a stupendous gift to the Ortega family and they are grateful! • Karen Keady, Kiwanis Antique Sale chairperson, thanked donators and shop- pers for their support of this spring’s record-breaking Antiques & Collectibles Sale: This year we added jewelry: costume, vintage, and collectible, which drew shoppers from all over the county! This fourth year we raised enough funds to pro- vide scholarships to several Sisters students. Kiwanis thanks everyone for mak- ing this fourth year a great success for us. Thank you for donations; thank you for shopping! • Ronnie Frigulti wrote: I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the ladies of Sisters High School. On Thursday, July 2, I was putting into the dock at the far west end of Suttle Lake. About 10 to 12 girls, who later told me they attended Sisters High School, were gathered on the dock trying to beat the heat. My German shorthair, Charlie Brown, decided to abandon ship although she was still tied to the boat’s rail. One of the ladies jumped into the lake to hold up Charlie Brown while I untied her and the rest of the girls pulled the boat to the dock and secured my border collie, Darling Dollie. It’s gratifying that we have such outstanding young women in our com- munity. I am not sure I would have received such help anywhere else. I did not get the names of the students, but hopefully they or their parents will read this letter and accept my gratitude.
