4 Wednesday, May 27, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters Children’s Choir to perform with them, Knox reports, “There are seven of us: Colby Roberts, first grade; Tucker Roberts, pre-K; Vaughn Storton, first grade; Brooklyn Winningham, first grade; Janae Mitchell, kin- dergarten; Naomi Bennette, first grade; and Iain Bennette, kindergarten.” Knox, realizing choir is available in the schools, decided to start a choir which included children from all schools, public and private, and include home schooled children as well. She also kept the ages young since choir starts at third grade at Sisters Elementary School and she didn’t want to interfere... “We had about 14 at Christmas,” Knox said, “but lost a lot to T-ball and various other more tempting sports- related pursuits. Alas, the arts cannot compete with sports... Sisters is such a beautiful place to enjoy sports, so I can’t say that I blame them! After-school opportunities are boundless here and kids have to follow their hearts!” Amy Bennette, who has two children in the choir said, “Sisters Children’s Choir has been a great experience for both our children. They have loved the songs Lola has selected, and learned so By Jim anderson Correspondent Sisters Country music- lovers got a first look at the talents of the Sisters Children’s Choir when they performed at the Mother’s Day performance of the Sisters High Desert Chorale. Lola Knox, director of the children’s choir says, “You ain’t seen nothing yet; wait ‘til you hear them sing the Shirley Temple songs in June.” The last concert of the Sisters Children’s Choir for the school season will take place on Monday, June 8, at 5:30 p.m. at Fir Street Park. The City of Sisters got underway Tuesday with construction of six-foot- wide meandering sidewalks and paved parking areas with ADA parking, on the north and south sides of Village Green City Park, on E. Washington Ave. and E. Jefferson Ave. The project also includes construction of curb, electrical trenching and conduit, electrical junction boxes, new streetlights and drainage improvements.
