Club benefits from anonymous donor Sisters’ Skateboard Club is still taking registrations at Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) — and thanks to the generous dona- tion of an anonymous donor and the hard work of coaches Daniel O’Neil and Gabe Rice — the price of skateboard club has been halved. Registration for Skateboard Club is now $49, and half of the profits gener- ated from the program will go back toward the Sisters Skate Alliance to maintain and improve the Sisters Skate Park. The Sisters Skate Park was the site of vandalism last fall, and funds were needed to clean the graffiti off the skate park. Since the recent construction, repairs of the Sisters Skate Alliance has not been generating funds to keep up with basic repairs and clean the skate park. Coach O’Neil is cognizant of the need for maintaining this world-class skate park. Revenue generated from the Skateboard Club will not only go towards maintaining the park but foster the next generation of skaters to care for the park. The culture of the park is welcoming to those rid- ing skateboards and scoot- ers. Often times, families with young children and high school students can be seen using the park together throughout the day, and espe- cially after school. By and large, according to SPRD, non-local residents treat the park with respect, often bringing large groups of kids to the park to train on Sisters’ premiere park. Known for its superb fea- tures, the skate park in Sisters draws many Central Oregon residents to the park on week- nights and weekends. Skateboard Club is open to anyone of any age who is looking to begin skat- ing or improve their skills. Registration is being taken at SPRD and funds go toward providing instruction along with helping fund the Sisters Skate Alliance. The program is set to start at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning April 21. My friend Vernon used to buy cheap used paperbacks to read in bed and when he’d finished both sides of one page he’d tear it out and throw it away so he wouldn’t re-read it.
