Born in Corwith, Iowa on April 10, 1943, Dick graduated from Corwith- Wesley High School in 1959 and William Penn College, Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1963, where he met and married his wife of 51 years, Dianne (Mosteller) Marr. He taught junior high math before being hired by Wm. Penn in 1965 as admis- sions counselor. Over the next 22 years, he served as director of admissions, then director of financial aid, retir- ing in 1987. Inspired by his beekeep- ing hobby and a sense of adventure, Dick and Dianne moved to property near Sisters where Dick went into business with his brother-in- law as a beekeeper, pollinat- ing crops from Wenatchee, WA to Chico, CA. His “homegrown” honey was enjoyed by many. Dick also worked in financial aid at COCC and in circulation for the Bend Bulletin. He and Dianne grew flowers and herbs for Schilling’s Solar Gardens for many years. Iowa friends remem- ber Dick as an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, football referee and umpire. Oregon friends knew him as an enthusiastic gardener, filling his commercial-sized green- houses with organic veg- etables and colorful blooms, which he delighted in giving away to family and friends. A servant of God, Dick was treasurer and board member of Sisters Church of the Nazarene, also volun- teering as groundskeeper and building custodian. He and Dianne sang many duets for morning worship. A loving “Grampie” full of fun and mischief, Dick took great pride in his grand- children, attending as many school and sporting events Danny’s Oranges Mandarin Tangerines Star Ruby Grapefruit as possible. Family time included camping, fishing, popping corn and playing card games until midnight. His recipes for apple danish and homemade bread will be passed down for generations, and no one will ever make a better breakfast! Preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Pauline (Brown) Marr, Dick is sur- vived by his wife, Dianne of Bend; son Jeff (Julie) Marr and granddaughter Nicole of Corvallis, OR; daughter Kristin (Greg) Klecker and grandchildren Karson and McKenzie of Bend, OR; brother Gene (Barbara) Marr of Allergan, MI; and nephew Kevin Marr. Participating in the tourna- ment were: Emily Huber, Torin Greaney, Cambrian Leaver, Bela Chladek and Ashton King for Sisters Elementary School; David Novotny, Eli Gurney, Brody Lofdahl, Simon Rhett and Sasha Komar for Sisters Middle School; and Ethan Ferwalt and Jordan Pollard representing Sisters High School. Every person at the tour- nament had their own unique strategies, strengths and weaknesses, tried their best, and played fair, according to 13-year-old participant Sasha Komar. “Unfortunately, many people couldn’t come to the tournament because of other events,” Komar noted. “I really enjoyed the tour- nament,” Komar noted. “We got to play different people from different schools, who taught me new strategies. This is my second time at the regional tournament, and every time I learn some- thing new. I think more people should join chess club and hopefully, go to the tournament. “Chess club is really fun and helps people become better at math. Anyone from Sisters Elementary School, Sisters Middle School, and Sisters High School can sign up at any time.” STOMP OUT THE Visit us for your Flu Shot January 1-31 at 541-549-0527 • 273 W.
