The Dallas team holds the championship, and this is to be a fin ishing game. State Labor Coniissloner Hoff has sent out to all laundries in the state a circular letter requesting managers of laundries to take certain precau tions to protect female workers from the excessive heat of Ironing rolls. This Is another step in the program outlined by the commissioner for the better protection of working people of the state. Friends of Mrs. Phil Kelzer, a well known Salem young woman, will be pleased to know that Bbe Is now third nuthber on the program at the Orphe inn theatre, In Portland, and has signed a contract to appear in vaude ville for BO days In New York City, after completing her engagement In the West. Governor West this morning ap pointed E. C, Apperson, F. W. Fen ton and .1. C. Cooper as the board of directors of tho new walnut experi ment station for Yamhill county. The appointment was made upon the rec ommendations of the county Judge of Yamhill county, the mayor of McMInn vllle, the president of the McMlnn vlllo Commercial Club and W. C. Ila gert. The experiment station Is being established by an appropriation of $ 1 0,000 for the purpose by the last leg islature. Governor West has set Saturday of this week as a time' when newspaper men may interview George and Charles Humphreys, who are sentenc ed to hang at the state penitentiary on Friday, March 21. Certain influences have been brought to bear on the governor of late In an effort to persuade the executive to commute the sentence of the Hum phreys.
