Rankin, who resides with his daugh ter, Mrs. Ellen R. Bliss, at Bay Head, N. J., took his bachelor's degree at Williams college when he was 21 years old and Immediately began the practice of law. HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRYING OUT MATERIAL Salem high school football players have been put for practice for several nights now, and are beginning to get so they can hang on to the pigskin whenever It comes within their reach The practice has been a little handi capped by a great many of the boys being either at work or out of town, but by the time school starts next Monday, all the old players who will leturn to school, will be back and the new material for the team will all be out, so that there will, In all probabil ity, be thirty or forty trying for places on this season's aggregation. The new athletic field Just purchas ed by the Bchool board Is In very good shape now, and all ready for use. Manager Springer Is working hard on a schedule that will make it woll worth the while of anybody to get out and try for the team. The alumni will be played along about the first week of school and this will necessitate that the boys get out early and work hurd in ordor to be In shape for the game. WILSON IS MET BY BIG CROWDS AT ALL POINTS Aboard Governor Wilson's Private Car, Sioux City, Ia Sept. 17. Greeted r.ll along the route by cheering crowds Governor Woodrow Wilson, of New Jersey, the democratic nominee for 1 resident, was given a rousing recep tion upon his arrival here today. The ciowd at the station was one of the largest to greet Wilson on his middle western campaign trip. Governor Wilson was taken to Morningslde College In an automobile where the students had gathered on the campus to greet him. This after noon he conferred with democratic leaders of Iowa, South Dakota, Ne braska, and Minnesota, and spoke at (he Interstate livestock fair here. The candidate scored heavily with, a frroup of workmen when his train stopped briefly at Onawa, Iowa. The governor stepped from his car and go ing over to the worker shook hand all around and chatted with them for a few minutes. The Barrel Got Him. Los Angeles, Cal., Sept 17. Chased down stairs by a runaway cement bar rel, Teamster C. O. Phillips was cor nered on a landing and crashed through a rail to the floor eight feet below.
