I'll ire Six DAILY CAPITAL JOURNAL, 8AI.E.W, OREGON, SATI KDAY, SKI'TEMHER 11, 11)12. WHAT IT MEANS TO SALEM TO HAVE A MAUSOLEUM "W)io hutli the true Love When foud hearts remove, In spirit from God-fashioned clay, Ki'cn Unlit through the gloom In the Master's stpne tomb And owns It 'The Bettor Way.' " FirHt, It will make the City View cemetery a more permanent luatltu tlon. It will give a better legal status to any burial ground by milling to It permanent atone buildings which al ways have a more lasting and perma ncnt legal tenuro than do common graves or tombstone memorials. The Coich Mausoleum, the only evidence q tie fact that Lincoln Park, Chicago, was once tho site of three cemeteries, still standing In defiance of tho park board and the city of Chicago, both of which did their utmost to remove It, Is a living, Indisputable testimonial of tho truth that a Mausoleum Is the only permanent burial place, and that such a building, if sufficiently large, has a tendency to preserve all other things of like sacredness around and about It. Second, It will give to the patrons of City View cemetery, Chapel and Re ceiving vault advantaged, which means that the living relatives and friends of tho dead shall not be exposed to In clement weather, to the storms and colds of winter, when attending funer al services and laying away tho dead cither In the grave or tho Mausoleum. Third, It will Increase and concen trate nt once, larger Interest In and patronage of Salem cemeteries, be cause It will Increase the accommoda tions and advantagos for both burial and entombment In the cemetery, and will bring people from still greater and greater distances. And where families lay away their dead, they are more and more inclined to establish their permanent trade relations. Fourth, a Community Mausoleum provides a sufficiently large chape! and corridor upace to enable fraternal ordors to practice their ritualistic bur ial service within doors, and, therefore enables all societies to conduct their funeral services at the tomb during tho most Inclement weather, and not least, but. possibly more than any thing else, attracts fraternal orders to make their burial place where such accommodation Is assured. Fifth, a Community Mausoleum guarantees li safe, sanitary burial to whomsoever will aeek absolute Im munity from the shocking anticipation of grave burial. Tho dread of the crave too of'en ffhortn" If Ann. not embitter and mako burdensome, the life of old people, whllo tho stone tomb the snow white tomb of the Mausoleum robs the grave If its terror and encour ages, If it does not Inspire and prolong life. Sixth, the Community Mausoleum provides a permanent family memorial r,o essential sometimes In establishing a JuHt claim In law to a right title or fortune even to fame Itself. And no man or woman knows what a blessing thoy are conferring upon humanity, relatives or their own descendants by tho erection of an enduring memorial tlmt will hand down their names tli rough many generations, sometimes to prevent counterfeits, and again to give to his or her own what of fortune raid fame JiiHtly belong to either. Soventli, it brings greater human 1'KpplncHH and consolation to tho living than burial In the earth. It Intensifies human tenderness for tho memory of the dead nnd awakens larger sympa thy among the living, Its manslvencss nnd beauty grows In sacrcdness as the years bo by because It Is a building dedicated to love and sacred memory whllo the attractlveneBS of tho open cemetery Is only a delusion nnd ni vnys passing Into the realm of neglect ffnd forgi'tfulness. It now looks as If the project will iie defeated on account of the henvy expense as compared with the comparatively small benefits to be de rived from Its construction. New fall suits are Bhown in striped and plain muterluls and in various nub weaves, usually soft finished. Often the skirt Is striped, the coat in plain eclor, nnd In some models there Is a simulated underskirt of the plain color also. A suit of black and white stripe, 'more block than white, has huge rev crs and collar and cuffs of white Bilk corduroy. The Btrliiea so arranged that their variety of line makes a trim ming effect, while big white buttons with black rims are placed where they will bo most effective, for be It odd the craze for buttons of all shapes and sizes shows no sign of abatement. Hack panels on the skirt on any ma terial thin enough to permit the man ipulation, are usually gathered at the bottom or tucked under and attached to the skirt. Only the short ones, that are broad and end a third way down tho skirt remain flat. These and many other attachments below the waist, lend a coat effect to thoso ouo-plece dresses that still remain fashionable, and fit them for street wear. Pleated Skirts. Accordion pleated skirts have ap peared again and seem to be gaining favor, also ono sees a good deal of a model that has a pleated flounce fall ing in close straight lines about the feet The oversklrt Is Just a tight fit i " vfY:;.'Q: V !" 1 li, v ' ' :i , .
