Park man ager of the farm, reports that the crop this year will be about "j per cent of an average and that the quality is ex cellent. (iiiiwrj Starts Up The Salem cannery began operation this morning on the canning of Bart Ictt pears. An immense quantity of pears has been received, which have been stored until ripe enough for can ning. The plant will run for about one month under full force on this fruit, which means the employment of about 2.'0 people. Hurled Today The funeral service of the late Clyde Royse, who committed suicide on Wednesday evening on the bank of the Willamette river, was held this after noon at the undertaking parlors of Lehman & Clough, conducted by Rev. Rees of the State Agricul tural college is In . the city, having come down to witness some experi ments he Is making on the orchard of C. O. Constable. Professor Rees, who is from the department of plant pathology, Is making the experiments to determine the cause of prune sun scald, which heretofore has been at- tributed to the sudden changes of the temperature during winter.
