Breeze Blown In Word has been received that "Breezef Gibson, a familiar figure around Salem, Is now confined In one of the local hospitals on account of Injuries received recently, when -he fell Into a ditch or hole. "Breeze" Is receiving the best of treatment at the hospital, and those atetndlng him are doing everything In their power to restore him to normal conditions. He will be out In a few days. Suit Case Recovered About a week ago Miss Kate Scott had the misfortune to have her stilt case stolen from the Southern Pacific depot, just as she was about to de part for Eugene. The matter was re ported to the police, who have suc ceeded in restoring It, It having been found In the grove near the asylum by some of the patients of that Institu tion. The only article taken was a dress, the thief leaving articles of much more value unmolested. The recent rains have Boaked the case, but, as the contents were cut glass and oth er non perishable articles, very little damage was done. Delayed the Paving Owing to the unsettled condition of the trench made by the company which laid the sewer along Chemeketa street, It has been found necessary, to dig out a great deal of the fill and replace It with solid earth. Workmen are now at work on the Job, which will take considerable time to complete, but as soon as possible the earth will be replaced, thoroughly tamped, and the street will then be paved. Cooper and Bill Statesman formed a fishing party going to Mehama yes terday. They report making some fine catches and Mr. Ralph relates some hair breadth escapes from drowning in the San t lam river. Funk; general manager of the Inter national Harvester company, with alienating the affections of his wife, Mrs. Josephine Hennlng, and demand ing $100,000, was called today before Judge Schlosser. On .motion of Funk's counsel, the court ordered that the testimony be limited to the proof of Instances when Funk and Mrs. Hennlng were alleged to have been together. Hennlng In his complaint named five dates and places where his wife was with Funk. Attorneys for the defense charge that the suit Is an attempt to discredit Funk and to diminish the, value of his testimony in the case of Senator ! Lorlmer. Smith has started a suit for $."!)00 dumnges alleged to have been done on May 13, 1912, when he was struck by a fulling pole at the corner of Trade and Front streets. The pole struck him on the left side of his head, from the effects of which, so it Is alleged, he has been rendered per manently deaf. The suit Is against the Oregon Electric company aud the Bi Concrete Paving 'and Cement com pany, of which O. llerrold and Rus sell Smith are the owners, doing busi ness under the firm name as stated. When the pole was set It was placed In' about five feet of sawdust, so It Is aliened. The paving company found It necessary to remove the sawdust, leaving the pole Btamllng without any support, except one wire, which was not sufficient to support the pole, so It Is alleged. The pole fell, killing one of Mr. Smith's horses, rendering tho other worthless, besides Injuring him ns stated. r ' i , f iTt.
