Two Extra Trains On account of the heavy travel over! the Oregon Electric railway It was necessary to run two extra trains over that line this morning. If the will warrant It the company will probably run an extra train or two each day dur ing the Portland festival. Sending Out Questions Superintendent Alderman Is send ing out the questions for the semi annual teachers' examinations, which begin June 19, and continue until the 1 2M. In each of the counties, It is de clared, there are many applicants . for the examinations. Married In Portland i Announcement Is made of the mar riage yesterday of Miss Janet Mallene Charlton to Mr. Harrison W. Elgin, both of this city. Both of the young people are well and favorably known here,. where Mr. Elgin Ib bookkeeper In the office of the city recorder, and Miss Chalton Is a stenographer In the office of F. A. Turner. The couple will reside In Salem. Complains as to Rules . P. A. Snyder, a druggist of Prairie City, has complained to the Railroad Commission with regard to the price charged by the Sumpter Valley nail road company for shipping drugs from Maker to Prairie City. He Bays that, the company charges 73 cents per 100 pounds, and that, when compared with the rates charged by the Oregon Washington Railroad company from Portland to linker, that the charge Is unreasonable. Postpone Hearing Because Dave Eccles, president of the Sumpter Valley Railroad company, has been summoned as a witness In the investigations " being prosecuted against the sugar trust the hearing on the complaint against the railroad com pany by the Baker City Commercial club has been postponed. The bear ing Involves the rate to be chnrged on the transportation of logs for saw mills In the country surrounding Bak er. Visits Old Friends Land Hamilton, for a number of ears connected with the Meyers' utore of this city, was in the city last night and this afternoon, on a visit to friends and relatives. Mr. Ham ilton left Salem about two years ago, going to Portland, where he resided about a year. For the past year he has resided In Dulse, Idaho, where he has been connected with the adver tising department of The Mode, a large department store of that place. .Ir.ck Hollenbeck, also ' employed In The Mode, is with Mr. Hamilton on I'Ih trip. The Journal reporter was put next to one of the head men of this big rail way concern yesterday, but the gentle man positively refused to have his name published until he was present ed with a Tashmoo cigar, the best that is made In Salem. The story will come out later. Moreland Honored The justices of the supreme court Monday noon presented Judge J. C. Moreland, clerk of thf court, with a haftdsome humldore, the occasion be ing his sl.,-slxth birthday. The pre sentation was made In the room of one of the justices, and Ji tice McBrlde, In presenting It, mode one of his neat and telling little speeches, such as only he can make. To Get Right of Way The Oregon & California Railroad company has begun condemnation pro ceedings against Therese Bahnsen, et al Involving 2.4 acres of land In sec tion 27, township 7 south, range 2 west, being a strip 1308 feet long and 80 feet wide. This property Is for the right of way of the Salem-FIr branch, which Is now under construction. Special Train By Oregon Electric Railway from Portland during Rose Festival. Every evening during Rose Festival week, a special train will leave Port land North Bank station at 11:15 p. m., Jefferson street station 11:30 p. m. for Salem and Intermediate points. Bring or send your list at an early date. 6-7-lw Judge Gnllowtiy's Court Judge Galloway will be In the city tomorrow morning and open his de. partment of the circuit court at 9 o'clock, at which time the case ofL. A. Williamson and wife against A. G. Roberts, for an accounting, will receive the attention of the court. This case has been before the court before, the defendant being ordered tn give an accounting, which hns been done, and to which objections have been made by the plaintiffs. The whole case will now be threshed out before Judge Galloway. On Friday the divorce case of Anton Dorn vs, Mary F. Dorn will be up for hearing at 1 o'clock, which will be followed by the case of Frank VanWessenhove and Ellen" Van Weasenhove against Minnie McCormlck, et al. Injunction. Hack from (lie East Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Bishop returned Inst night from a 10-wecks' trip through the east on business and pleasure. They left Salem over the Southern Pacific, going through Snn Francisco and New Oilcans. From there they proceeded to New York, visiting at that place as well as at Philadelphia, Washington, I). C.and Chicago. While In the capital they had the honor of calling upon Sena tor Chamberlain and Congressman Hawley. Took Annual Rath A party consisting of J. W. Shafer, Ralph Budlong, Roy Skofstad and Roy Bohannon made a flying trip to Tillamook Bay and return Sunday and Monday of this week. They left in Mr. Shafer's Bulck at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, arriving at Tilla mook City at 9:30 that evening. They went to Garibaldi the next morning and took their annual bath, return ing to Salem ut 10 o'clock in the evening. The total distance covered was 204 miles. Was Only Read-Drunk The police placed a man under ar rest last night about 6 o'clock for be ing drunk' and disorderly. He Is ac cused of sending a fake telegram to his sister at Eugene, announcing that he had been killed on the Ore gon Electric railway. He Blgned an atsumed nuine to the telegram. Soon after tho message was received by his sister, she telephoned to the sher iff's office to know the particulars. The officers soon began an Investiga tion, which revealed the fact that the telegram was erroneous and that the man was only dead drunk. It also developed that he Is a cocaine fiend. lie having offered a man $5 if he would get him a small bottle of the drug. This was refused him. This morning he was taken before Police Judge Elgin, where he was given a line of 20 days In jail. Anderson, engineer at de partment No. 2, went to Portland last evening for a week's vacation. He will go to Tacoma while away, returning to work on the 18th. Mrs. Jean Morley, sister of A. L. Fraser, left this afternoon for New port, where she will spend the summer with her sister, Mrs. Morley Is suffer ing from a severe attack of nervoua prostration, and It Is hoped the sea shore will bring her rollef. Mr. E. C. Van Slyck, the popular make-up on The Journal, has returned from Portland, where he spent several days visiting the Rose Festival and, well they are not all named Rose. STAT STIitA MARRIED. A civil com plaint was filed In the United States district court today by United Stntes Attorney McCourt agalns Wlllard N. Jones, recently pardoned by President Taft from serving four months In Jail for land frauds, In behalf of the United Stales. The suit is for the recovery of $133,000, which the government as serts Ib the present value of the nine entries which Jones secured by fraud. The entries totaled 1140 acres, and were located In Coos county. Notice.
