Alderman Sauter wanted the street paved from Mission to south city limits, while Alderman Pcnnybaker was t the opinion that for a. distance of two blocks south of Mission street was sufficient. Al derman Jones was opposed to paving the entire length of the street for the reason that in his opinion the prop erty was not worth the amount that would be assessed against it for the pavement. "I am actually astonished at you Mayor Ichmund sai.d Mr. Jones, to think that you would con sent to such a thing, knowing that there are people on the street In ma jority numbers who do not favor the iii.proveuient. Much of the property is nothing but holes In the ground." "I am astonished at you .too Mr. Jones," said the mayor, "I think your argument Is perfectly ridiculous." Alderman Sauter took up the argu ment and attempted to show Mr. Jones by figures he had compiled, wherein the property owners along the street wanted the Improvement, to which Mr. Jones replied that he did not believe that the property owners along the street favored Im provement and did not believe Suu ttr's figures were correct. Alderman Pennybaker then took a hand. Among other things, he said: "Alderman Sauter, you agreed to stay out If this street was Improved to Waller street, but now you fall to keep your agreement, and you know It." You now come here pro posing that this street be Improved for Its entire length. Plans nnd specifications were then adopted for the Improvement of 12th street from Mission street to the south city limits. Hack from Newport Mrs. S. A. Jones of 441 N.
