H liimiooiuii SIXTY TWO YEARS OLD SHERIFF MINTO HAS THE COM. MISSION OF WILLIAM HERREN AS SHERIFF OF MARION COUNTY FRAMED IN HIS OFFICE. Sheriff Harry Mlnto Is the proud posessor of what is, if not the oldest, at least one of the oldest commis sions ever issued in the state, or rather, territory of Oregon. It Is that of William Herren, who was elected sheriff of Marion county on the first Monday In June, A. D. 1850. Ed. Her ren in looking through some old pa pers of his father's, came across the document, and asked Harry it he would like to have it. "Sure," was the quick reply," and I will frame it and hang It up in the office." This he proceeded to do and the venerable document now has a place of honor In the sheriff's office. It is as follows: Oregon Territory Marlon County Klntzlng Prltchette, Acting Governor of Said Territory. To William Herren, of the County of Marlon, Esquire. To hold, exercise and enjoy the said office, with all the rights, fees, perquisites, emoluments and advan tages from thence lawfully accruing, or thereunto of right appertaining, for the term of two years, to be com puted from the first Monday of June, A. Nevada, with a population of less than 100,000, Ihib six votes 111 the Ue. publican national convention. At. the same rate then New York should huve about 500. Nevada ulways did get hers, hut she deserves all she can grab. Mr. Fifty Seven Kinds Heinz, who has pickled a fortune, talks of starting a factory In Portland. This would again place Oregon In the lead with the very latest, the 5Ktli kind. It looks as though neither Clark nor Wilson will have the necessary votes, two-thirds, to control the convention. This is where some one Is liable to shy W. J. TVs lint Into the ring. What Taft and La Follctte ure say ing of each other may not be true, but they are certainly furnishing some fine campaign material for their friends the democrats. It would surprise you to know of the great good that Is being done by Chamberlain s Tablets. Darius Dow ney. of New berg Junction, N. For snle by all dealers. Mrs. Wm. A. Allen, Chacon, Nw Mexico, had so severe a cough that It nearly choked her to death. Mr. Allen says: "W. tried many things without helping her when by good luck I got a bottle of Foley's Honoy and Tar Compound. It helped her at once and Anally cured her. It Is the best medicine we ever used." Dr. Stone Drug Co. . CIRCUS IS DIGGIST OF THEM ALL Walter Murphy, general contract ing agent of the Sells Floto Circus, which comes here on May 30, who was a vlBltor recently, speaking of the big attraction which made such a 'universal hit in the Northwest last season, said: "Five years ago a director of amusements who prophesied an era of popular prices, such as we are having in the theatrical world today, would have been rated as being noth ing short of a lunatic, But strange things happen as the wheel of time turns, so that today we find people demanding more for their money than ever before in the history of the world, and proprietors of attractions seeking to meet that demand. Per haps the exception to this has been the circus, and barring one Instance, all the old line shows adhere to the scale of prices which prevailed two decades ago. The management of the Sells Floto Circus, however, for the past three seasons, has inaugurated a new pol icy, no doubt believing that in doing so, they could retain and hold the greater portion of public patronage. When the simple statement is made that we have cut the regular price, which from time immemorial has been the rule of the circus, in half, few people stop to consider what this means in the regular totaling of the season's receipts. But coining right down to figure, it shows a primary discrepancy of almost $100,000. when compared with the Bum total of a sea son at the old price. Considering the fact that It costs more than $3000 a day to operate a big amusement enterprise of this kind, one can get some idea of the risk involved when the management of the circus decided to cut the ad mission to 25 cents. All their rivals in the circus business expressed the opinion that such a feat of financial Jugglery could not be successfully carried out, but the last three years have proven that these people bulld ed wisely, and that from an intensely business standpoint, was possibly the wisest move they could have made. The records show that the attend ance has been more than doubled and that it Is possible to give more now at the cut price and to enlarge the performance In every way than it was under the old system. This season the 25-cent tariff will be enforced everywhere the Sells Floto Circus appears. The admission price admits patrons to the big show in Its entirety, and there are Beats for 10,000 purchasers of these tickets. The management followed with the statement that there Is absolutely no deviation from this rule. We carry no so-called "accommodation wa gons" where a greater sum is charged. Almost a Miracle. One of the most startling changes ever seen In any man, according to W. B. Holsclaw, Clarendon, Texas, was effected years ago In his brother "Ho had such a dreadful cough," he writes, "that all our family thought he was going into consumption, but he began to uso Dr. King's New Dis covery, and was completely cured by 10 bottles. Now he Ib sound and well and weighs 218 pounds. For many years our family has used this won dorful remedy for coughs and colds with excellent results.' It's quick, snfe, reliable and guaranteed.
