Hack From Washington Attorney-General Crawford arrived home Saturday from Washington, D. C., where he has been for some time looking after the state's interests in the case of the Pacific States Tele phone company against the State of Oregon, before the United Statts su preme court. The main question, and one of vital Importance, not only to the state, but to the nation, was whether the Oregon system, under which a law can be made by the ini tiative, is constitutional. The attor- new-general says he feels rather con fident the dn'islon will be in favor of the state. Old Iowa Friends W. J. Book, proprietor of the Hab erdasher clothing store at Eugene, was In Salem yesterday. He was a school boy back In old Clayton coun ty, Iowa, when the editor was in his teens, and had not met him since. He was in the hay. business at Haines, Baker county, where he made a small fortune, and has Invested at Eugene. Two other old Iowa boys, the Schaef er brothers, are also at Eugene, and run the Ax Billy department store. All are successful business men, and like Oregon very much. The SweriMi Church Services are growing in interest. A goodly congregation was gathered in the Swedish tabernacle M. E. church yesterday to hear the Swedish pastor. Rev. John Ovall. After the service) the Epworth League was o: ganlzed, which will meet every Sun day afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The outlook for this church Is bright. W'nnted Your eggs and poultry. (iet a City Home A Salem man who has a good $3500 home a block from the street car line in one of the best residence parts of the city, near to church and school, wants to trade it for a small tract that will raise loganberries." He wants some cash for his place, but will take most of the value of the place in land that will grow berries or potatoes. Owners of land who want to get a place on easy terms in the city can trade this man a piece of land, and pay some cash, and get a nice home in the city. Some of our land poor friends who want a home in the city to educate their children or live in their middle life easily in town could let this man have a logan berry tract, pay him a little money, and benefit both parties. Do not put off too long, or you will be like the man who was trying a few weeks ago to get a home in this city. When he had the deal almost closed he died very suddenly, and his dream of end ing his days In the city remained a dream, to be realized In the city with streets of gold.
