The young man falls in love with the girl on his own hook, and writes a letter telling his uncle that the girl is homely, drinks, smokes and has other peculiarities, and thus the old man's love story ends at once. The uncle has always been very anxious that his nephew should mar ray and Bettle down, so he offers him $50,000 when he shall marry. Get ting pressed for ready cash, the young man writes his uncle that he Is married and has a child, and the old man Is very (renerous and all goes well enough until the uncle writes that he Is coming home. Then the young man gets his friend, Mrs. Merry, to pose as his wife, borrows a child, and the deception la kept up for some time, much to the amuse ment of every one, as many excru ciatingly funny situations develop. Finally the tangle Is solved, the young man weds Dorothy, and every one Is happy. Tht ' role gives Mr. Clifford ample opportunity for high clss fun making, and he has numer ous songs that are full of the catchi est melody imaglnnble. o WENT HACK ON MAMMA TO STAY WITH Hl'ltllY San Francisco Nov. 10.
