Mrs. Paul Johnson, who was Hired in her wedding gown of white messaline and carried a large bouquet of pink asters. Little Maxine Kollett, niece of the bride, carried the white jatln pillow on which rested the wed ding ring. Mr. Paul Johnson attend ed the groom. Previous to the en trance of the bridal party. Miss Ger trude Erixon sang "Because," with jllss Ethel Thomas ' accompanying, and during the ceremony Mrs. Mor gan played softly Mendelssohn's Spring Sony. The bride wore an exquisite gown of white silk crepe entrain, hand em broidered front panel, yoke and sleeves. Among the embroidery were innum erable seed pearls of many sizes. Net and baby Irish lace were also used in Its construction. With this robe, taking the place of a veil, was worn a soft tulle hood, garnished with or ange blossoms. The bridal bouquet was artistically arranged v.lth white sweet peas and maiden-hair fern. The home was beau tifully decorated, the parlors In ferns and pink and white sweet peas and the dining room, where refreshments were served, was extremely attractive all In a scheme of yellow and green; asters and niaiden-halr fern. The table with Its yellow candles and shades was centered with a mirror reflecting from above the yellow elec tric dome from which hung a basket of golden flowers tied with a love fcnot of the same color. In the entrance hall, receiving be tween sixty and seventy guests, all of whom were relatives and very near friends were two little cousins of the bride, Ruth Wright of Oregon City and Maud McCoy of Salem. The wedding gifts .were numerous, useful and very beautiful. Among "them, a piano from the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Slmeral left at ten o'clock for Newport, expecting to re main for a fortnight. In the fall they are leaving Salem for Tulare "county, California, where Mr, Slmeral owns an extensive alfalfa ranch. The young people have hosts of friends in Salem. Mrs. Slmeral, a charming young woman, was the re cipient of much attention following the announcement of her engagement. Mrs. Warren Hunt gave beautifully piano selections during the evening. "Cheery-ln," the uretty bungalow her party with ten o'clock breakfast lollowing. The altogether charming event was enjoyed by the Misses Gay nall Baldwin, Lottie Penn, Vera Mar tin. Florence Mousten, Stella Gleason, ueryi Headrick. Ursula Beck and the man and Miss Laura Stlllman of Eu gene, Miss Laura Gilbert of Milton, Wisconsin, and. Mrs. J. W. Da vies of Dunsmuir, California. The large veran da was elaborately decorated with hanging baskets, Chinese lanterns and maiden -hair fern. Here the guests brought dainty needlework and were served with lovely refreshments. Asked for this affair were Mrs. R. E. Lee Stelner and daughters Rita and Barbara, Mrs. Frank Holmes of Sa lem, Mrs. Rogers of McMlnnville, Mrs. Bert Haney of Portland, Mrs. Brid well and daughter of McMlnnville, Mrs. Currie and Mrs. Rugei' of Nes kowln, Mrs. Bridwell and daughter of Amity. "Cheery-ln"' was completed last May. It is a' modern bungalow with large rooms and extensive porch. All modern conveniences have been In stalled, 'including hot and cold water and bath with up-to-date plumbing. This cottage with its pretty exte rior and beautiful location makes an Ideal home during the season. For twenty-three years the Daniel Frys have, been summering at Slab Creek. Mr. and Mrs. John J. Roberts re turned last Wednesday from a fort nights visit at Seaside, stopping in tained. Mrs. Laura Doolittle, whose art studio for Interior decoration is lo cated in Lucretia court, Portland, near Twenty-third and Washington streets, has been in Salem, consulting with several home owners, the interior of whose houses are being finished under her direction. Mrs. Doolittle was the guest of Mrs. Russell Catlin. Mrs. S. W. Thompson telephoned a few friends for last Tuesday after noon, to visit with Mrs. Henry Gold bury of North Yakima, who will be pleasantly remembered as Miss Hor tense Levy of Salem. Mrs. Claud Knight of The Dalles arrived In Salem last Wednesday ev ening and will be the guest for a few weeks of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fawk. Roberts visited friends In Portland last week from Sunday to Friday. Mrs. Mark Brownell of Oakland, California, left last week Thursday for Eugene, where she will remain until the fifteenth of next month, be fore returning to her home. Mrs. A. M. Clough and Mrs. E. E. Fisher asked friends to meet last week Thursday afternoon at Mrs. Clough's residence for the purpose of organiz ing a Kensington club. The affair was very enjoyable. The Invitation list included Mesdames W. C. Stewart, Nellie Knox, Frank Roberts, H. C. Fletcher. E. H. Wyant, E. C. Genero, Joseph Bernardl, N. S. Stewart, Ray Clark, E. E. Fisher and A. M. Clough. On the sai'.enth of September the club will be entertained by Mrs. Fisher, when a name will be decided upon and other women invited to become mera- ' bers. A delightfully enjoyable affair was the Kensington given last week Thurs day afternoon by Mrs. Donald Glover, who entertained the "Reds" of the Woman's Relief Corps,together with a few invited friends. After an hour of sewing, the forty guests were en tertained with an olfactory game, which proved extremely puzzling. A member of the "Reds" captured second prize while first honor was awarded an outside guest. The national colors were artistically carried out In Invi tations, decorations, refreshments and prizes. At beautifully appointed ta bles the guests were seated for dainty refreshments served by the hostess, with the help of her sisters and Miss Meiring. Misses Bessie, Ray and Ethel Smith entertained the Orange club last week Thursday evening, with a seven o'clock luncheon at the state fair grounds. Chinese lanterns were used for decorating and lovely refresh ments were served. About twenty members enjoyed the affair. Mrs. Seba Case Wall Is at Seavlew as cottage guest of the W. Melvlne Plimptons. Doctor and Mrs. Harry Clay and Mr. and Mrs. Frederick S. Stewart enjoyed a delightful week end trip to Sliver Creek falls. Miss Irene Campbell, whom Port land claims as one of her women ten nis champions, but who Is a resident of Salem, Is visiting at North Beach this week. Miss Campbell distin guished herself by excellent playing in the different towns where tour naments were held. The annual picnic of First Christ ian church bible school was held last Saturday on the state fair grounds when a good crowd enjoyed the after noon and early evening. Among games played by the young folks was base ball between a girl's nine and boys, who played left handed. In ad dition to the six o'clock supper, lem onade and plenty of fine candy was furnished for all the euests at the expense of the bible school. An exceedingly quiet aud simple wedding took place last week Tues day, August the fifteenth, at the home of Doctor and Mrs. Fletcher Homan, when Ernest L. Coe of Prlnevllle and Greta Mayhew of Omaha, Nebraska, were nuited In marriage by Doctor Homan. Professor Coe went to The Dalles to meet his bride on her way from the middle west. No guests were asked for this occasion. The bride was dnintily gowned In white. Oh Wednesday Professor and Mrs. Coe left for Prlnevllle, where a home had been prepared for them. Later In the week they left for a trip to Crater Lake, expecting to remain for a short visit. Professor Coe was principal of Mrs. Plamondon cf Portland, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Coe was teaching; and Is now In charge of the Cook county, Oregon high school. Miss Minnetta Magers will return to Salem about the fourth of Sep tember to resume her teaching in vocal work. Plans have been made for chorus and quartette drill. Complimenting Mr. Victor Swart1?, who is leaving for his former home In Missouri, about twenty members of the Christian Endeavor society of the Christian church met in the parlors last Wednesday and from there the crowd went to Bushs pasture for a Jolly evening. Around a bonfire were stories, games and songs and here too were roasted part of the refresh ments. After the first course came Ice cream and watermelon. Part cf the evening was given over to the young men who planned a meeting for the arrangement of a program to be given at a temperance meeting, Sunday evening, September the tenth- Miss Florence Houston Is visiting with friends in Eugene.
