Five hundred square feet of space has been secured at the Twin City Land Show for the Oregon exhibit. Governor West has received word from the officers of the Northwestern Development League that the business interests of St. Paul, Minneapolis and Duluth have agreed to a deal whereby thi3 state will be furnished exhibit space without cost at the land show. The show, to be given under the auspices of the league, is the only one in the country which is not a private enterprise, and will be managed in such a way as to furnish space for official exhibits. .At a cost of ten thousand dollars the business interests of the three Minnesota cities have bought from the league 3500 square feet of preferred space at the show. Each of the seven states will have a space of fifty feet Ipng and ten feet wide for their official exhibit. The governor has been asked to confer with officers of the league in this state and secure the interest of those necessary to put in an exhibit which will be a credit to the state. Under this plan no one community or city will have an ad vantage over others in the state. Any city, county or land company desiring to make an inde pendent exhibit will be able to secure a limited amount of space near the state exhibit on reasonable terms, but it is the desire of the league officers for this state that the best possible exhibit be made in the name of the state, as it is from such an exhibit that results are to be obtained. The seven states which are to be thus represented are Wash ington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota and Minnesota. No other states will have exhibits, and Canadian exhibits will be barred, the whole idea of the show being "an exposition by the seven states for the benefit of the seven states alone." Oregon officers of the league are C. C. Chapman, of Portland, and William Hanley, of Burns. Inquiries about the Oregon exhibit should be addressed to them, while information about the show and space therein should be addressed to Will A. Campbell, St. Paul, Minn. o CHICAGO HAS NO POOR. no poor" as compared with London, or any of the large Euro pean cities, or with New York. "Of all the American cities," said Prof. Findlay, "New York alone is really right in talking of her poor problem." Prof. Finlay is a member of the faculty of the University cf Manchester, England, and was invited to deliver a lecture at the i-ummer course of the University of Chicago on "The Lo-vest Strata of City Life." He called attention to the radical differences of the causes of poverty in America and Europe. Refusing to admit that Jack London drew his character of Sam Steubwr in "An Abysmal Brute" from the Hfo of Sam Berger, the former manager of Jim Jeffries, and ex-amateur heavyweight champion pugilist of the world, de clared his willingness to submit at any time to a comparison of his per sonal history and general character with that of the author. "I am not setting myself up as a paragon of virtue, but London can not find anything off color ia my ca reer,' said Berger. "Mind you, I am not admitting th.it T.nnrl'nn had me In mind when he drew his infamous character, but his twisting of names, and the point ing out of certain incidents in my boxing career would lead, and has led many persons to believe that he did.
