OREGON GLEE aiio mai! 00 li ir; l CLUBS COMING SCINTILLATING WITH HUMOR, AIJOUNDING IN NEW AND CLEVER SONGS AND FULL OF FUN SAYS ONE WHO SAW THEM. (Eugene Register). Those who left the Eugene threa- tre last night, after witnessing the initiative concert of the Oregon Glee and Mandolin clubs, were unanimous in the beat ever presented by a aim liar organization of the Institution. Scintillating with humor, abound' Ing In new and clever songs, and full of fun the c.iib hold the large audi ence which packed the theatre, from the time the curtain rose xintil it fell for the last time. Prof. I. M. Glen, who has so ably directed the University' glee clubs for so many years, and the manage ment are to be congratulated on turning out such a creditable organ ization. . Salem, Pec. 12. Opening. with "Oh! Oregon," the club responded to' two encores with Nix on the Glowworm. Lena," and Atno." The latter being a charm ing love song and well .rendered. The second was a number by the Mandolin club "Eperanza" Pala- clos. In response to an encore,'' they played, "Every Little Movement Has a Meaning of its Own." Like the glee club the work of the mandolin club reflects careful training and hard work.' ' Raphael Gelsler, Francis Curtis, and Alexander Martin, the trio which made such a hit last year ln- -their grand -opera burlesque, added new laurels to their reputation, with their Suffragette Trio'; They were forced to' resDond "again k and again to ap plause of the audience. " This skft was one of the most novel of the evening. Great Interest has been manifest ed In the appearance of William Lai, the Chinese boy singing In the tenor section of ' the club, and no one was disappointed, for Mr. Lai's work as a sollBt is deserving of unqualified praise. His songs were enthusias tically received. . ' The program would have been in complete without a solo by Prof. I. M. Glen, whose beautiful baritone voice has won for him a wide reputa tion in musical circles. Professor Glen always receives a cordial and well deserved reception, whenever he appears. His rendition of Chamln de's "Couolete Bacchlque," was especially well rendered. "The South Wind Blows." which the glue club sang, after the solos of ProfeHsor Glen, Is one of the prettiest of their numbers. They sang a clever Chinese song for an encore. The program was brought to a close with a mirth provoking sketch. entitled, "The Glee Club at Dope Centre." The entire club took part in this presenting as specialties Gelsler and Curtis, who as the Pretzler Twins, with popular songs In Ger man, convulsed the audience. Ken neth Frazler sang the "Toreador Song" from Carmen, In a pleasing manner. A "real" German band was also Introduced, and Its novel lmlta he band masters of the Fatherland" were highly amusing. Tom Burke kept the audience In a good humor by his character work as the town constable. The club leaves next week to make tour of the valley, and later of eastern Oregon. They will, no doubt, receive an enthusiastic welcome wherever they appear. State Reform School Supplies.
