JL JBEIR.G SALEM MAN CAPTURED BIG HONOR Few Salem residents know that one of their citizens- went to the Portland Apple Fair last week with three boxea of apples raised over near Eola and took the first prize for the three best boxes of apples raised In the Willamette valley. Mr. H. A. Johnson, of this city, wa-i the man who received thla honor and he raised the apples In the Johnson orchard five miles west of Salem in Polk county. The apples were Baldwins, Spltzenburgs an3 Rhode Island Greenings. The beat aprJTe raisers In the valley competed against him. Mr. Johnson can well be proud of this honor anjl Silem can be proud of the fact that these apples were raised practically within her gates. The applee are now on display in Mr. Johnson's window on State street.
