Tho shock at 11:25 p. m. was of 15 seconds dura tion. Tho second, felt at 11 49 p. m., was brief. Tho temblors were folt most plain ly at Grass Valley and Nova da City, where the frightened- peoplo rushed Into the treets in fear of disaster. Marysvllle, Chlco and Colfax also wero shaken perceptibly, nnd tbo people awakened.
