'The month of June is the period for the reunions of the old Oregon pioneers and the reviewers of the history of the past, They are grand, important and always interesting. But the battle for the development of the region once covered by Old Oregon Is also of the greatest importance, It is vyelito dwell on the achievements of the pioneers, their hardships and struggles. finmnnrarl with thifir lene: iournevs across the mains and the oceans, their privations and sacrifices, many of our efforts of today must appear puny, But let us do the duty that lies nearest at hand and reaching out into the future pull wider open the "doors of opportunity (or the m lljons yet to come. The duty of the present generation is to push for the rapid development of Oregon, Idaho and the whole Pacific Northwest, The talismanic watchword of the day is Development. Railroads must be built where the trail of'tlie pioneer once stretched toward the setting sun, The valleys must be criss-crossed with electric lines where once there were only the footpaths of the neighbors from ranch to ranch, Tho rivers must be opened and free from obstacles to navi gation and the harbors must be opened to larger vessels. These are the urgent tasks of the hours and this publication is dedicated to tho men of the hour who are doing these things, The past has gone into history and it is our duty to preserve the glorious records of those who have been the pathfinders of our greatness as commonwealths. But we must not stop with dwelling on the achievements of the past but must press forward to the better conditions that are the needs of a higher civilization, Better Stir up Your Liver a Little!
