Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Howard, of Junction City, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at, tbolr homo at that place on April 115th. Mr. Upward was born In Knox county, Ohio, Decombor 6th, 1833, and cros- tied tho plains to Orocon In 1853, locating In Lnno county, whoro ho lias olnco lived continuously. Mrs. Howard was born In Nodoway coun ty, Missouri, on April 11, 1841, and crossed tho plains with her futhor, Daniel Smith, In tho yoar 1852. Her mother died on tho plains after four wcoko' Journey, loavlng horwith the caro of hor youngor Bister and broth er nt'-thb' ace of eleven years. They located 'nt Smlthflold, Lane county, the placo which bears tho nhmo of her father. Mr. and Mrs. Howard wcro mnrrlod at Smlthflold, Land county, on April 15, 1858. Mr. Howard has boon ono of tho most enterprising ploueor business mon of tho county. Fourteen chil dren havo boon born to this couplo, thirteen of whom are living: Carrlo Eden, of Oakland, Cal.; 13. P. How ard, Arvllla Powoll, Iphti Leo, and Mabel Daker, of Junction; Mnbol H. Hodges, of San Francisco; Wm. V. Howard, of Spoknno; Andy M. Howard, of Portland; Luno L. How ard, of Rosobnrg; J. D. Howard, Dora Sovorn, Rozlllu Stnrr and Nora Dixon, of Ettgeno, all of whom were uroaont oxcopt J, D., Andy M., Wm. V., and Mrs. Eden. This family is roprosontod by tho fifth generation, as Mrs. Howard's fathor Is living, ond has paHsod his 00th birthday.
