ULLOM, Prop. STEER THIS WAY It Is claimed .that there Is now no closed season for trout other than those In the Umpqua river and Its tributaries. This condition hnj been bought about by an amendment to section 2033, which, while repealing .the old section makes no closed son- son for any stream other than the Umpqua. Tho section as ameded reads: "It shall be unlawful for any per son to take, catch of kill or have In possession any trout except salmon trout, during tho months of Decem ber, Jnnunry and February of any year, .taken from tho waters of tho Umpqua river or Us tributaries, or nt any tlmo to take, catch, kill, 'or have In possession any trout, char or salmon less than five inches In length, or to take, catch or kill tho Bamo by any means whatever except with hook and lino, commonly called angling.' It 1 hld that the closed season provision of this amendmont of tho old law npplles only to tho Umpqua river and Its tributaries, leaving no law whatever providing a closed sea son for trout fishing In any other stream in the state. Tho bill was in troduced by Rftfiresontatlvo Jackson of Roseburg, and was passed without chnngo.tTho amendment is found on pago 54 of the 1007 session laws. Tho old section, which wub super seded by Jackson's bill and Is no longer in force, wns: It Is doubtful If tho law would stand test of tho courts. And he who Interprets tho now section to menn that lie can catch fish at any old timo may find a bunch of trouble. If, howover, tho lnw will stand then It is equally cctraln that tho trout may bo killed with dynamite, caught with a not, or any othor old way .tho fisherman sees fit to try, for tho sumo amodmont, makes it un lawful to take, catch, kill or havo In possession nny trout char or Balmon less than flvo Inches in longth or to take, catch or kill tho same by nny nicaiiH whatever except with hook and line, commonly called angling. This clauso applies, aB Is easily Been to fish under five Inches In length In tho waters of tho Umpqua only, o Woodbum Wedding.
