A Local Paper States Three Companies Have Land Options at That Point Thoso who aro Interested In tho de velopment of Oregon and ,tho cori structlon of now railroads nro just now very busy kooplng their eyes fixed on tho Coos Bay country. It Is a well known fact that tho liar, rlman Interests hnvo in tho past and aro at tho present momont persistontly refusing to build Into tho Clearwater country, Idaho, and rofustng to build from Rlparla to Lewiston or into Con trnl Oregon. All thoso localities nro begging for railroad facilities and havo tho resources to justify tholr de mands. Yet, hero, without being nsfeod tho Uarrlman Interests announco that thoy intend) to build into tho Coos Bay country. J This movoment on their part Is what Is creating consldorablo conjocturo among thoso who aro not on the up side. It Is nlso known that at this time tho Ilarriman Intorosts havo no right of way or terminal grounds. cs Coos Bay, unless It Is tho Glasgow proper ty, consisting of threo thousand acres of good coal land and wator front, which was sold last wcok. , ' It la understood) In cortain quarters that tho Southern Pacific has purchas ed this property. Tho Ladds, of Port land, hold a controlling Interest In the Glasgow proporty nnd ono of them Is also a director oil tho board of tho Ilarriman roads. On tho other hand It Is known that tho Southern Pacific, has passed out of tho control of tho Southern QTegon proporty, consisting of sovoral thous and acres of coal land, a few miles of water front and a splondldi townslto on Coos Bay. Then again good authority states that L. J. Simpson has mado a com pact with a railroad outfit which, :ls not tho Southern Pacific nor thoso who nro In on tho Southern Oregon com pany deal. This explains why tho Southern Pa cific announced that It would build to Marshflcld. It Is nlso explains why partlos Inter ested in railroads in tho Enst mado an examination of tho Sprocklos road nnd coal mines last wcok. And It Is known that parties havo an option on that property which holds good till tho mlddlo of next month. To throw raoro light on tho situation hero lot us look Into tho traffic condi tions as thoy oxlst today on Coos Bay. Tho shlpmonts on tho Alllanco that nro billed to tho East from Coos Bay go on tho Ilarriman system from Port land, tho Roanoke freight Is routed over tho Hill lines, and tho Broukwa tor tonnago Is turned over to tho Santa Fe Toad. This indicates tho alignment of tho steamship companies with tho various transcontinental roads. Tho mammoth railroad Intorests havo been doing somo underground work hero nnd tho Southorn Pacific announcement is tho first surface indication. Tho Southern Paciflo has discovered enoueh "new ovldenco" to eonvlnco jj. Y0U ARE NOT H uu ENTIRELY Magers, Mgr. tbcra that .somebody la monkoylng with their exclusive territory. Their counter move Is tho announcement to build to Coos Bay. Bo nil this as it mar. tho railroad situation. horo has dovelopod to a point whoro It becomes I n forcgon conclusion that not only will wo havo two roads but possibly threo. Tho reason is simple Coos Bay is tho only fuel harbor south) of Pugot . Sound, which gives It an immonso auV vantago over harbors without fuol. Every locomotive! and steamer that J San Pedro or San Diego uses coal that I comes from Coos Bay, Pugot Sound or over COO miles from tho Interior. Nor Is this nil. Tho department of tho In terior of tho United Statos has pre pared a map that shows In black all tho coal fields of tho United States and on tho wholo Paciflo coast only two black spots aro shown ono in Wash ington and tho other at Coos Bay, Tho government roport shows that tho Coos Bay ooal fields havo ovor a J billion tons of coal which! is availablo by tho ordinary methods of mining. Besides tho vast coal fields, over ton por cent of tho standing timber of tho United States is tributary to Coos Bay. Couplod with tho. mineral resources and fcrtllo farming land it Is no wonder that vast railroad Interests aro fighting for this harbor. Howover, whllo thp- railroads arc figuring, tho pooplo of North Bend, Emplro and Marsbfiold nood havo no foar that any ono town will bo built up to tho exclusion of tho othors, A lino drnwn from tho Sprockles coal bunkors to. a point on South Inlet opposite Charleston glvQS nn ncreago of about twelvo squaro milos west of tho lino. "With a. railroad built in hor.o wo would soon ' havo a population of 00,000 pooplo. Tbero is not a city on ths Atlantic eouet with that population that docs not cover moro than twonty squaro miles of ground. Coos Bay Harbor. FRAUD EXPOSED.
