The moth er knows the touch of the soft hands too well to need to guess, and for the moment she enters into the playful spirit of the child and for gets her toil and weariness. Then a sudden movement sends a thrill of pain through her and she realizes that though love may lighten labor It cannot lighten pain. Thousands of women who have suf fered from backache, headache, and other consequences of womanly disease, have been made well women by the use of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescrip tion. It establishes regularity, dries unhealthy drains, heals inflammation and ulceration and cures female weakness. " I cannot far enoueh In Dralsc of Dr. Fierce' Favorite Prescription as it haajdone me so much Sood," writes TvC . Box loo rs. Henry JIarrell. or Tarboro. "I was swollen so I could hardly walk when I began taking the favorite I're- Dt neittier eat nor sleeD onlv as I took mornhlne Tried four different doctors and they all failed to do me any good, so one of my friends recom mended your ' Favorite Prescription ' to me and I took only three bottles and am now welt and hearty. Can do almost any Vind of work." Dr. ricrce's Pleasant Pellets are the most desirable laxative for delicate women. C-nlval Company's Attractions. Tho Sacramento Bee writes of tho attractions with the Southern Carnival cempany: The ascent of the spiral tower, one of the free attractions, held the at tention of a large crowd last night. A man ascends and descends a high tower on a large ball; which ho pro pels with his feet. When he Is de scending he sets off a pyrotechulc display, and finishes his Journey In a rain of Are. Immediately after the coronation ceremonies, the acrobatic attractions of the stadium were presented on the platform In front of the Queen's throne Many acts, such as tumbling, wire walking, trapeze performing, Juggling, etc., all of, which were remarkable in their claEs, were given. The leading attraction of the stadium, howevor, was the "looping tho loop" by Diavolo. DIavolo dressed In a suit of scarlet, was introduced to the couit and then to the audience, and ascended a steep incline. He mounted his Theel, and como down the Incline with terrific speed. He swung around the loop In a second. Tho apparatus Is so con structed that when' the rider parses over a certain part of it, he touches a spring, which instantly swings a portion of the track around, so that he continues his ride around an un broken path. As soon as he completes the clruclt he Is stopped by ropes tied to sand bags, within a short dis tance of tho loop. Michigan Democrats. Giand Rapids, Mich., Aug 3. Mich igan Domocrats aro holding their state convention here today for tho nomination of candidates for governor and other state officers. Tho Bryan oloment insists that only a "regular" Democratic or, In other words, ono who supported tho national ticket in '1890 and 1900, should head tho state ticket, but as the conservative wing of the party, headed by D, J. Campau, is in suprome control of tho conven tion the demands of the Bryan men are likely to receive but scant con sideration. Edwin D. Jackson of Bay City mayor of Grand Rapids, Justus S. They both appointed delegates to attend the meeting of the Oregon Development League, and when thdy arrived In Portland the former entertained the latter at a dinner. The feature of the dinner was tho venison which was provided by tho marksmanship of J. R. Robertson. Last Sunday afternoon, whllo the members of tho North Bend delega tion were staging It from Marshfield to Roseburg, a young buck sprang up from a dense clump of underbrush and started to run. Tho animal was 60 yards away from tho stage, and as no one had thought of seeing this sort of game on tho trip, a rifle had not been brought. But Just to show his companions what a revolver could do when held by a ma& who can shoot, Mr. Robertson flred at the floelng deer. One shot was enough, for tho animal dropped in Its trades, the.38 caliber bullet having gone through its body. Frightened by tho sound of the shot a grouse flew up and lit In tho top of the highest near-by tree. Aiming his smoking revolver at the bird, Mr. Robertson again flred. The grouse tumbled out of the treetop dead. Both grouse and venison were served at the banquet. o Man Hurt Buggy Wrecked, Mac Smith met with quite an ac cident out on tho SUverton road Mon day evening. He was driving his team, when they took fright and dashed oft tho grade, upsetting tho buggy and almost wrecking It. Mr. Smith suffered a severe Jolting up and was kicked by ono of the horses on his left 'wrist, fortunately, however not breaking it. Ono horse was injured and was not able to move around jesterday. o Do It ioaay. Tho time-worn injunction, "Never put" off 'till tomorrow what you can do today," is now genorally present ed In this ferm: "Do It today!" That Is tho terse advise we want to give you about that hacking cough or de moralizing cold with which you havo been struggling for several days, per haps weeks. Take some reliable reme dy for It TODAY and let that remedy bo Dr. Boschee's German Syrup, which has been in use for over thlrty-flvo years. A few doses of It will undoubt edly relieve your cough or cold, and Its continued use for a few days will euro you completely. No matter how deep-seated your cough, even if dread consumption has attacked your lungs, Gorman Syrup will surely effect a cure as It has dono before in thou sands of apparently hopeless cases of lung trouble. Now trial bottles, 26c; regular size, 75c. At all druggists. At Dr. Stone's drug stores. . o No Address Left. Eleven people have disappeared In Portland during the last two months and but threo havo been found. Tho police are baffled at tho many mys teries surrounding tho cases. What the Times Demand.
