PEEL CHITTIM BARK Benton County People Will Rake in the Shekels Chlttlm peeling lb In progress In the Alsea country, and a largo part of the population is engaged In the In dustry, says tho Corvallls Times. Five cents a pound Is offered for tho bark at Wade Malone's store, according to Frank Hughes, who was In town Mon day, but nobody Is eelllng at that figure, except In laro Instances, when an occasional small lot goes at that price. Most of tho peelers will hold for a better figure, and unless many of them get 10 cents a pound, they will hold over until another season. It Is estimated' that sevent-tenths of the roraainlng bark In tho Alsea coun try will bo peeled this season. Much of the bark on the railroad lands is be ing peeled. The chlttlm on these lands Is disposed of to peelers on a basis of one-third to one-half for peel ing, tho bark to bo delivered to tho railroad company at Malone's store. "Willis Vldlto has been appointed agent of the railroad company, to look after their interests; in the chlttlm business. So far practically no bark has been delivered. The Salem band, under the leader ship of Prof. MclSlroy, will assist tho ladles of the league in entertaining the public tonight at Marlon square. jlHimiHIIIimilllill ; 4 ICE CREAM in paper pails to take home ; 1 -2 Pt in paper pail 10c:: 1 pint in paper pail 1 5c ; ; 1. 1 quart in paper pail 25c : : I 1-2 gal in jfaper pail 50c '.
