Mrs. Johanna O'Brien died at her homo Jn this city yesterday, after an illness of several years at tho age of 72 years. Deceased wag born in Kilkenny, Ireland, and came to Amerlcaln.,'i852, settling in Oregon at an early date. In tho aiternoon tho canoeists pulled out, and near Buttovllle slept on tho downy side of a sand bank, reaching Portland In safety Monday evening, Tho run f 70 miles was mado entirely with Paddles, one portage- around tho falls t Oregon City being tho only time the canoes wore out of tho water. Moat of tho young men wero experi enced paddlors, and members of the Portland athletic clubs and rowing teams, taking their two-dav vacation la this hearty and wholesome manner. Mrs. Brown, was a vic tim of the unfortunate Elk's excursion wreck last summer, and has been In poor health, having suffered the loss of an arm and otherwise Injured, but is recovering her health.
