MtMltMtMtMMtM,a,aM OREGON CROP REPORT Reports Show Some Injury by Frost and Other In- formation The government crop icport for the past week for Oregon has the follow ing summary Tho past week has been cool and showery, with s'overal frosty morn ings. It was favorable for advancing farm work, but too cool for rapid growth. Fall wheat nnd fall barley are overywhero In excollent condition, and In some localities early sown fall barley Is beginning to head. Spring seeding is nearly finished, except on the low, heavy lands, and tho early seeded wheat, barley and oats havo all como up to good stands. Pastur age, grasses and such forago plants as vetch and cheat are doing splendidly. Stock continues Improving, and tho flow of milk In dairy herds Is excol lent. Sheep shearing Is well under way, with the Indications that tho clip will bo an average one. In a few localities hops havo been Injured by frost, and tho vines overy whero have not done eo well as they did the previous week. Tho cultiva tion of the hop yards for the first time has been practically completed, and the hops are now nearly to tho top of the poles, or twine, as the case may be. Gardens are backward, and somo tender varieties of vegetables havo been slightly Injured by frost. Lato gardens and late potatoes aro being planted, and considerable land is be ing prepared for coin, but not much has yet been planted. Frosts havo badly damaged Italian prunes, and Royal Anne chorrles aro reported to have boon severely Injured In many localities. Potito prunes and penches haie set well, and there 13 a profusion of applo bloom. Willamette Valley. Forost Grove Weathor fine; fall grain of all' kind growing rapidly; pns turago good; fruit trees full of bloom; hops half way up tho poles and grow, lng inpldly; stock doing finely. Sandy Weather cool and showery; crops making very slow growth; prunes about a total failuro from cold rains and hail; plenty of snow In tho mountains. Bishop Whltaker's 74th Birthday. Philadelphia, Pa, May 10. Today Right Rev. Ozl William Whltaker, bishop of tho Protestant Episcopal dioceso of Pennsylvania, entered up on his 75th year and was tho re cipient of numorous notes and cards Of congratulations from his frlend3, both in .and out of tho church. No celebration of the anniversary was hold owing to Blahop Whltaker's ago and physical Infirmities. Bishop Whltaker Is a native of Massachusetts and received his edu cation at MIddloburg collego and tho Gonoral Theological seminary In Now York, graduating from tho lattor in 18C3. Six years later he was oloctod missionary bishop to Novada, nnd filled that position until 1885, when ho was chosen bishop coadjutor of Penn sylvania to assist Bishop Stevens. When the lattor dlod in 1S87 Bishop Whltaker succeeded him. Tho active management of tho affairs of tho dio cese Is now largely In the hands of Bishop .
