DAILY CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM. OREGON. TUESDAY, MAY 10, 1904. THREE. IGH SCHOOL STUDENT La Grande Wrongly Re- I ported as Having No Doctor Jeurnal: In your Issue of April 'there appears a telegraphic news h from La Grande, Oregon, rela ito an ncelclent which happened to gung high school student of that The Item states that the hoy's ber declined medical assistance, nlng her confident dependence up- llvlno aid, and the Item concludes "at last accounts today he Is In arlous condition, hut he has no S5r." IkSr the opinions of a symiiathetic fc are more or le3s influenced hy atlonal items of this nature, and varying reports of this particular jhavo heen given wide clrcula- throughout the coast press, as ran vlfltf IHHmM rsr tt vbHIR Ht .IJgKjy fecs KThe amount of energy lint a food doesn't count ?g much as the amount loju can get out with the Least effort. FORCE" is easily digested, and it is likable Beyond description. ,sict4y Jnui-u associated with Christian Science, It seems advisable, even at this late date, to make a brief statement of the occurrence, and Us outcome, as given mo recently by the young man himself. The accident, as described by the item In question, occurred early in the afternoon of April 25th, and the young man was at once taken to his homo by his mother, and, at his own request, given Christian Science treats ment. In two hours he felt suffi ciently well to sit up and eat his din ner, and lator in the day went to a nearby neighbors, and played mar bles with his boy friends. That night ho slept peacefully and well, and was In his place at school next morning. Ho has since continued his studies as usual, and reports himself well In ev ery respect. At the time tho original Item was dated from La Qrando Uie young man was at his school, ah evi dence of recovery. Leaving the question of the soriou -ness of the Injury and tho efficacy of Christian Science treatment out of the que3tion, It must bo quite evident from tho above that the original report of this case was at least given unneces sary notoriety and publicity. It is ap preciated by Christian Scientists that those who have full faith In accepted medical methods, and know nothing from experience of tho beneficial re sults of Christian Sclonco treatment, may conclude with disapproval that dependence on Christian Science in case of emorgency Is equivalent to doing nothing, but this not tho cae. Christian Sclontists, it must be re membered, have been earnest depend ents on mateilal methods in the past, and In most caso3 adhere now to Christian Science because In extremity it mot their need whon all olse failed, and their present choice Is by leason of tho comparative benefits received. Christian Scientists liave found that turning to the Great Physician Jn times of physical as well as spiritual need, Is doing that which brings most speedy relief and permanent cure, as In tho case In point, thus proving that today, as of yore, God Is tritly "a vory present holp In trouble.
