The sentiment, especially in conservative states like Oregon and the down East commonwealths, look with disfavor on any change, while the younger generation of adherents of Wesley nro asking, even demand ing a little license in these matters. The ditch irrigates about 7000 acres of land, and! was formerly owned by a private corpora- tlon( but, owing to the high rates charged the patrons, it was decided to mako It co-operative, and a com pany wns organized for that purpose, A number of the farmers ware able to pay for their stock, but, as a great many will be compelled to borrow money to complete their payments", it was thought that the stato school fund would bo the cheapest and best form of loan. Tho stato reported fa vorably on the pioject, and tho deal will probably be consummated within a few days. About $25,000 will bo nec essary, and ns the state lias plenty of money In the school fund, it will be a great benefit to the settlers, and place a large amount of available cash out at Interest.
