Tbls was done to shut out wildcat, or slates' rights money, such oh the Populists now want. Paper currency Is all right, If it stands on u metulllc bottom. Gold and silver form that bottom, and It takes both to make u foundation large and strong enough for us all to stand on, und we will surely stand on It sooner or later. Any other policy would let In the rag money party, without any bottom at all. The single gold standard will not do for our government. Gold can always be hoarded, und misers can bury It out of sight and iw. Brokers will keep up a constant fluctuation betwieu the two metuls, unless we have a llxed otandurd value of our own, fixing their own re lullon. Now, 10 to 1 was about the difference between the two metals from the years 1087 to 1873. It never ex actly reached 10 to 1 for a period of 180 ye-irs, except for three jeiirn during that time.
