Boston Correspondent. Child Urldei or MmsachuietU. How many people know that it is law ful in Massachusetts for a little girl of 12 to become a wife? Who could believe at first thought that many little girlsin short dresses have been legally married here in Boston during the past year, and that the law, even in the hands of thoughtful officials, was powerless to prevent it? The records of this year show 57 marriages of girls of 17 or less. Three of these were 15 nnd one a child of 14. She was in the grammar school and wore short dresses. When her teacher sont to see why she did not come to school, it seemed to her impossible that she was married. Boston women have spent a good deal of thought and time and money for the child widows of In dia. There is room for a good deal of endeavor on behalf of the child brides of Massachusetts.
