There is a wholesome kernel of truth inside the rough shell of this nngallant peech. The "Favorite Prescription" is invaluable in all uterine troubles, in carnations, ulcerations, displacements, nervon disorders, pro-tration, exhaus tion, or hysteria. For rundown, worn oat women, no more strengthening tonic or nervine is known. Barbers' Clippers Spread DUeaw. When the young men of a Paris ar rondissement went last week to draw lots for military service, the authorities were aghast at the number of lads who presented themselves, each one balder than the other. An inquiry was opened, and the men were questioned as to how this state of things came about. It was found that they frequented the 6ame barber's shop, and that this wonderful fall of hair was due to their hair having been dressed by a barber who did not keep his scissors and brushes sufficiently clean. By the orders of the prefect of the Seine Dr. Lancereaux made a complete study of the subject and has just pre sented a report to the department coun cil of hygiene, from which it appears that contagious affections of the seal are very easily propagated by the use ol dirty brushes and, above all, the use of "clippers" that are employed to cut the hair very close. These "clippers" are so difficult to clean that their nse must ai ways be attended with risk. Pall Mali Gazette. The Jelly FUIi Is a -Wonder Too. The jellyfish lays thousands of tiny eggs, which, being covered with natural oars in the shape of numerous hair, row themselves into some quiet place and settle down to await further develop ments. These eggs do not turn to jelly fish any more than the butterfly's eggs turn to a butterfly. First a stem springs from each and then the stem subdivides .nto numerous branches, each branch being covered with tiny cups, the mouth of each surrounded with small arms technically called "tentacles." This is tbe first stage of the jellyfish's life. Now comes the wonderful part of the 6tory. As the warm weather advances this stem, which grew from tbe origina. egg and branched out like a vegetable growth, begins to bud, and from each bud a minute speck of animal life springs forth. It is the young jelly fish swim ming out to test the doctrine of "sur vival of the fittest," and to do battle with the innumerable other forms of or ganized beings. St. Louis Republic. How's This! The girls of the town, those be tween 15 and 0 years of age. are a jolly crowd and are compelled by the lack of young men to amuse themselves to a great extent. Some of the most adven turous a few days ago decided upon a novel entertainment and rapidly com pleted preparations-for the affair. The greatest secrecy was maintained, but unfortunately for the girls several young men were suspicions of their unusual activity and managed to obtain ' a clue to their object mock marriage. It was held at the home of Miss Gene vieve Rommel 'and was a complete suc cess. Ten of the girls were attired in men's suits, threef lieing in full dress. The ceremony -was performed in regular style. A temporary altar was formed by a table, the minister stood waiting as tne bndal party entered the room, the bride leaning on tbe arm of her pre tended father and the bridesmaid fol lowing. Then came six ushers in male attire. The groom and his best man met them at the altar, where the mock ceremony was performed with all due solemnity. Unfortunately for the girls, three young men who had discovered their secret watched the proceedings with a great deal of interest, and the whole town soon heard of it. The poor girls are now in a very embarrassing situa tion. Their parents are angry and shocked, and they are afraid to venture on the Btreefc to face the laughter of the people. Cor. Philadelphia Press. Odd Freak or a Somnambulist. Thursday night about 11 o'clock, as Professor Leweleh of Henderson, Term., was passing along the main street ia front of the courthouse, he was aston ished to meet Rev. Mr. Rodgers, the pas tor of the Christian church, attired in only a nightshirt and a wide brimmed straw hat. As the pastor went by Pro fessor Lewelen noticed that his eyes were tightly closed, and surmising that be was a somnambulist determined to fol low him. When Mr. Rodgers reached the gate of the courthouse yard, he en tered, closely followed by Professor Lew elen, and walking to the south side of the courthouse he grasped the lightning rod and began to ascend. Seizing him by the shirt, Professor Lewelen endeavored to pull him down, bnt the cloth gave way, and the minister climbed to the cornice and then crawled to the top of the incline of the roof. Seating himself on the roof, he ahd to the bottom of the incline, catching by a slight projection at the very edge. He continued this performance until the professor became alarmed, and seizing the rope of the courthouse bell began to ring for help. Tbe people of the town assembled in the yard to the number of nearly 800 and watched the minister's antics for nearly half an hour. At the end of this time he descended the rod, and passing through the crowd made his way to his boarding place. On being in terviewed the next morning he declared that he knew nothing of what had hap pened the night before. He now sleeps with his leg chained to the bedpost, Memphis Appeal-Avalanche. A Golden Eagle Captured. The first golden eagle seen in the north em part of Ohio for a great many years is now a captive at the home of Joseph Maynes in Toledo. Mr. Maynes and Peter Barquin were frog fishing in a marsh near the elge of the city, along a wooded bluff, and Maynes was just in the act of spearing a frog when the eagle swooped down upon him, seizing him be tween the shoulder blades, its sharp talons cutting through his overcoat, a thin undercoat and deeply into the flesh. The bird beat its wings desperately, and nearly lifted Maynes from his feet two or three times. While the bird was vigorously lacer ating his back and shoulders he con trived to turn sufficiently to strike it with his frog spear. Ho then threw one arm about the eagle's neck and pounded it upon the head with the spear, while Barquin came to his assistance, and be-. tween tho two they managed to conquer it, and procuring a rope fastened it to a tree till arrangements could be made to take it to the house. It is 7 feet and 6 inches across tho wings and weighs 85 pounds, standing 3 feet S inches high. It is evidently rather young. Old citi zens declare it to be a golden eagl a. The plumage is of a dark russet color, nearly brown. It has a monstrous head, with a beak 4, inches long. It ate 15 spar rows for supper, swallowing each ono whole. Cincinnati Commercial Gazette.
