O. Condit The civil case of W. W. Murphy vs. J. A. Mc Caun, to recover $33, was set for jury trial at 1 p. m. Wonderful Knives. Mrs. N. J. Carr is sole agent for Salem of the famous Christy cutlery. This new invention consists of a knife kept sharp by a series of rellex curve3, so that a cutting edge is presented on ouly one side and is hence easily kept sharp. They come in four sizes, bread, cake and fruit knives, and a carver. The whole knife is made of indestructible steel and is a great improvement on all knives now in use. Housekeepers should see them. The Liains. Tho Electric Light & Power Co. say the cause of some of the lights on the North Salem circuit going out last night was un avoidable. The machines supply ing the current had been run three yeais aud never failed before. The defect will be supplied and the ser vice made perfect at once. For the price it pays, the city is entitled to a good system of lights, and the new' company say that is what they pro pose to give. . Rake Tbess. Wo have some samples of Buckeyes grown on J. Moir's grounds near the Willamette Valley flouring mills. They have been turned over to the horse editor for consumption. Questions are again raised as to the authority of the city recorder to hold an in quest, ns was done by Recorder Goodell yesterday. It Is said the ruling of the circuit judge nnd su preme court have both ruled that one of tho justices must hold the In quest. It is also claimed that the verdict is not in due form. Poultry Judges.
