School Election The Jour nal bus a number of communica tions on the school clerk election Monday, but does not publish thtm fir the very simple reason that there Is nothing to dtecuss. There me three candidates, but no politics in involved. Republicans cannot nllbrd to mare this a party fight, even if they could win it as such. It, is not understood that there is a Republican party candidate even if the Republican city committee did designate one as such. This was done at the leqiiMit of candidates for their own convenience, but not ns a political act. This is the spirit in which the citizens generally take it, and they are men as u rule who piiZH both the schools and tiieir joliiical associations very highly. Joint Deuatk. This Saturday evening at Alka-Hesperiau hall will occur a big joint debate between Re publican and Democratic speakers, thitoon each side, the best obtain able. Raking in the People's Dollars to Defeat the Republican Party and Help Democracy. The Nebraska Prohibition orators are doing what the Democratic press up the valley lauded them so for doing trying to help the Demo cratic party and making Prohi bitionists very slowly. The Journal came in for the attacks of the assistant Democrats again Friday night, as it fully ex pected. One isbellim; the Prohibi tion publication called "The Cali fornia Voice" and the other is peddling a song book. These men are sharp and well dressed and have a regular system of raising money by taUing up collections and levying off private enthusiasts all th it they cm. The Journal has treated these peisous oiry as they deserve as wolves and plunderers of inno cent people iu the name of u good cause that tby are rapidly sinking into oblivion via the St. John route. While they refcr to both parlies, here as elsewhere their main attack and their burlesque songs are all in abuse of Republicans, President Harrison, Vice President Morton, John Wanamuker, the senate and legislatures of the different states. People are to stand all this from an itinerant newspaper vender, who is here today and there tomor row for revenue only. A smart lawyer on a public platform can do these things and iiniuso the crowd. These persons arc in no wise respon sible to the temperance people of Salt m, or of their own stutes, aud whether they do good or harm is of liltlo consequence to them, so they get their $7 50 a night, and p'.ouly of dupes for their papers and m ng books.
